| World Championship of Online Poker V on the Horizon |
| Wednesday, 23 August 2006 | |
![]() It has been a banner year for poker, with players storming Las Vegas, Nev. in record numbers to compete in this year’s World Series of Poker. But poker fever continues to permeate the online realm as well, and the Fifth Annual World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is preparing to set a standard of its own for internet poker. With WCOOP V set to begin in less than one month on Sept. 16, the affiliate host – PokerStars – is guaranteeing a $10 million prize pool this year, after guaranteeing $8 million in 2005. In what has to be considered the online version of the WSOP, the championships will feature 18 events over the course of 15 days – including the additions of HORSE and Razz to this year’s slate – and will culminate on Oct. 1 with the $3 million No-Limit Holdem Main Event. As an added bonus to the rich format, PokerStars is posting $1.5 million in free 2006 WCOOP seats through its own freerolls. ITH looks forward to providing WCOOP coverage of its various members and Internet Player of the Year hopefuls. |
