 In this month's Scene: -The ITH Poker League has wrapped up the regular season, and "June Madness" begins soon -More on the IPOY and a look at some big upcoming online tournaments -Great new freeroll offerings -Several upcoming brick&mortar tournaments with online qualifiers, including some preliminary WSOP events Read, enjoy, and prosper. ITH Poker League Races Towards the Finish Finally, we can say it's too late to take a shot at the over $15,000 in prizes in the ITH Poker League. The regular season has been completed, and the selection commitee has crunched the numbers. Fifty-eight players will suit up Sunday, June 11 at 3:00 pm (ET) for the $12,000 Main Event Freeroll. The big winner will collect a $10,000 WSOP entry plus travel. The number one seed in our "June Madness" series is DSpitler. Congratulations on solid and consistent performance over the last four months. The top 27 overall point totals are playing for a $2500 World Series of Poker travel/entry package on June 10. Congratulations to the top 27 participants and to all of the 1140 players who enrolled in at least one tournament for a classy, competitive league. 2006 IPOY Race phat_cat maintained a solid lead in the ITH Internet Player of the Year standings. The leader's scorecard shows at least $167,000 in tournament winnings year-to-date. The IPOY scores players based on their finishes in all of the largest regular online tournaments, plus many special events as well. A list of all the included tournaments with satellites can be found here. A special forum has been created to discuss IPOY matters. Online Tournament News Ongame Network (including PokerRoom) now has four weekly $620+30 WSOP satellites. These tournaments have plenty of play with 3000 chips and 20 minute levels. The recent Grand Tournament VII, a $1000 online tournament, had 753 entrants and paid $240,000 to first place. The date for GT VIII will be announced soon. Ongame has added three daily Super Structures tournaments, which offer 5000 starting chips and 30 minute levels. Buy-ins range from $20+2 to $50+4. PokerStars has announced its next Blogger Championship. It will be played June 18. Fifty-four prizes will be awarded, completely free, and first place gets a $12,000 WSOP Main Event package. Stars has added two weekly $300+20 WSOP Main Event satellites, one on Saturday at 1415 ET, and one on Sunday at 0200 ET. UltimateBet's Sunday $200+15 tournament has been increased to a $200,000 guarantee for the June 4 event. UB has begun its Six Weeks of World Series Seats tournaments. These $50+5 (some $30+3 rebuy) tournaments are offered as often as four times daily, and award entry into specific WSOP tournaments. WSOP Events 2,3,5,6, and 13 are offered in the first week of June. All winners receive $1000 for travel expenses. Qualifying continues for the September 23 WPT Aruba Classic. The $10,000 prize package includes the $5000+200 buy-in, coach air, and eight nights hotel accomadations. Weekly satellites can be entered for $100+9, $200+15, $300+20, and $1000+50. UB now allows players winning a sub-satellite to unregister from the target tournament and receive Tournament Dollars in exchange. This will allow players to use WSOP and WPT Aruba sub-satellites interchangeably. The following chart shows all the ways to enter various UB qualifiers.  Party Poker has added special WSOP satellites, open only to European players, that award an extra $1000 to cover the additional travel expenses incurred. European players might also check out the satellites to the Scandinavian Masters and Partypoker.com World Open. Party has increased the guarantee for its Sunday weekly $200+15 tournament to $1 million. This tournament is part of the ITH Internet Player of the Year standings. This change has brought about a vastly increased number of satellite tournaments, as shown  Full Tilt Poker has added three $200+16 tpurnaments to their weekly Race for Bracelets offerings. The full schedule can be seen here. Full Tilt's twice-weekly $200+16 Winner's Choice tournaments have some new options. Winners can select from: WSOP Main Event (July 28, Las Vegas); WPT Legends of Poker (August 26, Los Angeles); WPT Borgata Poker Open (September 15, Atlantic City); and WPT World Poker Finals (November 11, Foxwoods). Full Tilt's satellite to the WSOP $50,000 HORSE tournament will be held July 1. Paradise Poker hosts a June 15 satellite to the WPT Legends at the Bicycle Casino. The $250 tournament can be qualified for in a $4 rebuy. Paradise has added 20-, 50-, and 100- player maximum MTTs to its daily schedule. The $5, $10, and $20 tournaments are listed as "Quickies." The $400,000 Guaranteed tournament at Paradise is June 10. Satellites to the $200 rebuy tournament start at $5. The $2000 entry fee for the June 3 Poseidon tournament can be won in $20 rebuy satellites. The June 3 event features 2500 starting chips and 20 minute levels. The next WSOP Main Event satellites at Paradise are June 1 ($1000 buy-in; $11 rebuy, $15 rebuy, and $20 rebuy satellites) and June 3 ($200 buy-in; $4 rebuy satellites). Paradise awards $1500 for travel on top of the $50,000 buy-in to the WSOP HORSE tournament. The $500 qualifier is June 17. Freerollin' One exciting freeroll offer is made to new players by PokerRoom. The promotion is called Weekly Welcome Series. New players receive three tickets to freerolls which award further tournament entries to winners. Other important freerolls to remember are the upcoming Million Dollar Freerolls at UltimateBet (July 15) and Paradise (July 22). Both award first prizes worth $1 Million. Both run several daily freeroll qualifiers to the July events. UltimateBet also allows direct "buy-in" using reward points. |
