Since Jan. 1, 2006, ITH has tracked the most premier multi-table tournaments on the web, with the intention of crowning the Internet Player of the Year at year’s end. Using an objective scoring system, based off online poker excellence, ITH is preparing to recognize the best Internet poker player in the world in a matter of weeks.
In addition to regularly scheduled daily and weekly tournaments, ITH included several specialty tournaments in its 2006 criteria, such as the Full Tilt Online Poker Series, the Ultimate Bet Online Championship, and the World Championship of Online Poker, hosted by Poker Stars, just to name a few. ITH’s panel of poker experts determined the 2006 online criteria, while also consulting with the host of outstanding players registered in ITH’s IPOY system to devise the best criteria.
As the ITH IPOY race gained popularity and momentum, a sister website – www.internetpokerrankings.com – or IPR, was adopted in September. IPR became the online authority for the 2006 IPOY race, powered by ITH. Updated rankings, weekly MTT beats, and up-to-the-second MTT schedules are just a few features of the IPR website. As success continued to grow, the IPOY began to garner attention from leading poker media outlets, most notably ALL IN Magazine, which now features the updated IPOY rankings once a month in its publication.
Over the past 11-plus months, a number of deserving players have begun to separate themselves from the pack as they vie for the distinction of “World’s Best Online Poker Player”. ITH is overwhelmed with the success of the IPOY race, and looks forward to many more successful campaigns in the future. But first things first, this year’s race is winding to a close and the King of Online Poker will soon be determined. Keep an eye on the standings and please follow along with us!

Is Poker Gambling?
| Written by Ian Taylor |
| Saturday, 09 December 2006 |

Online Poker Mistake 4: Calling Raises Too Often on the Turn The fourth article in a series: Miscalculating Odds with Two Cards to Come by Matthew Hilger
This is the fourth article in a series called Top 10 Mistakes of Online Players. The mistakes are not given in any particular order. Most of the mistakes apply to live play also although two or three of them are most applicable to online play. So far we have discussed the following mistakes:
#1: Playing Too Many Starting Hands and
#2: Drawing To Outs That Won’t Help You Win
#3: Miscalculating Odds with Two Cards to Come
This leads us into our next common mistake…
Mistake #4: Calling Raises Too Often on the Turn
Calling raises too often on the turn is another common mistake made by many players. One problem with calling raises on the turn is that you often end up calling the river. With a goal of earning one big bet an hour, you would wipe out two hours of earnings in one hand by making the mistake of calling the turn and river when you shouldn’t. When calling a raise on the turn, think about whether or not you will call the river if you don’t improve. Paying two big bets significantly decreases the pot odds you are receiving to see if you will win the hand.
