    Bad beat ouchies

Played in WPT bounty tourney. Blinds are at 1,000/2,000 with 300 antes. Not getting good cards, but still have about 40,000. Get pocket kings. A player raises and I reraise. We're heads up. Flop is 8, K, 4. Happy with nuts, I go all in. He calls and has set of 4s. Turn gives him quads with last 4. River is 8. I go out 40th out of 208. Paid 24 places. Am I just unlucky?

Sorry I know it's harder when it's out in a MTT I'm just the wrong guy to offer sympathy!

Yeah, that doesn't feel good. That as far as I can see is the problem with poker and therefor it is .. gambling. You can play well and still loose. Of course in the long run you will come out ahead in that scenario, but sure feels crappy at the time.

Yes - but unlike a lot of forms of gambling it's one where you can have a greater level of control.

The way I liken to people is would you like to play a game for $1 where if you roll a six you win and if you roll anything else I win. The answer is of course usually no, but you are always trying to get people into spots like that where they need to be lucky to beat you. Of course the flip side to that is they're trying to do the same!

But I do agree it's much easier to absorb bad beats in cash games where over 15k hands or so a month you're bound to get unlucky a lot but it will even itself out. In a tourney it's hat, coat and out the door!
