    LOL me

One of my new year resolutions was to not get annoyed with stuff and just try and enjoy life .

I always try and sit down with that mindset in poker .... but a couple of dodgy hands and that logic goes out the window and wont return until ive stopped playing for at least an hour or so ..

Well .. i had my first snooker league match of the year last night ... and the same kind of pattern repeated itself ..

I lost a doubles match and one of my opponents was new to me ... but he actually played well ... but then started to get a little cocky which started to rub me up the wrong way ... and when i realised i had him in my singles match .. i thought i would concentrate and give this upstart a real thrashing to bring him down a peg or two ..

I started off well ... and then when i had a clear chance to rack up some points and could probably open up a 40 point lead ..... which is massive in a single frame shootout and even more so with the standard of our league ! ... i promptly missed a black off the spot ... it was not just that, it was the manner of how i missed it .... just one of the ugliest cue action shots ive played in years ..

I let him in and he made a break and we where roughly levels ..but in my head ... i could not let that shot go ... ( a bit like a dodgy poker hand ) ... and for the rest of the frame i was mentally gone and was on snooker tilt .. , made even worse because i cannot just stop and leave !

Twice .. i almost smacked the cue ball with the butt of my cue and concede the frame ( especially the 2nd time ) ..

I somehow managed to win on the black .. but took absolutely no enjoyment out of the match at all ...

I went home pretty sharpish .. and within half an hour ... i was fine again ..... just annoyed with myself that i lost the plot again .!

I saw some advice today that made me think of this thread:

My tip would be don't give up when you hit a wall. Don't view anything as a failure, just as an exciting new challenge.

Given he was talking about 3D graphics, I was a little disappointed. I'd have been more pleased with:

My tip would be don't give up when you hit a wall. You're a 3D graphics artist, draw yourself a door.

If I wanted to be helpful I could always say try to be more like Steve Kean than Sir Alex Ferguson!

Read an interesting article in the Racing Post the other day by Kevin Pullein who extolled the virtues of Kean's approach to defeat. Accept any short comings and analyse them thoroughly but also accept that sometimes things go against you that you cant legislate for (e.g. dodgy pens!).

In fairness he has a point that in all the post match interviews I've seen from Kean he comes across well. Never whingeing about decisions but simply pointing out that he couldnt blame his players for that, whereas in other areas he maybe could.

Well, if Kean hasn't got his approach to defeat sorted out by now, he should have. After all he's had plenty of practice

Firstly ... im not overally happy that Steve Kean is being mentioned in a Llanlad VRR thread ..

Now we have cleared that up ...i will say ..

Steve Kean is growing on me ...i could not stand the guy when he started at Blackburn ... if ever BS Man was needed ( ie, an idiot abroad fame ) .. then it was in a Steve Kean interview.

He would just waffle on and talk nonsense ...

But nowadays ... i kind of hope he survives ... he has had to put up with far too much stick off just about everyone and yet hes held his head up high and actually showed a lot of dignity under ridiculous pressure ..

What will happen eventually is ... he will start to do well and Blackburn will start to win a few games and be at least mid table .... then the owners will start trying to hog the limelight and saying it was because they kept faith in Kean ..... then sack him for a higher profile name to take Blackburn to the ' next level '

First, since I have absolutely no idea who Steve Kean is, he's definitaly a soccer player, right?

    Second, Dogs, this

    is brilliant.

Third, I love the whole zen theme to this thread, and I think you're on to something. You might beat that old tilty bastard yet, llan.

As an American castrated online poker player, I don't have a lot to contribute, but I still check these forums about every day, so keep em coming and good luck this year.

    Aloha,

    Steve

    Hi Steve ...

Good to hear from you ...hope all is well .

We are now 2 weeks into he new year ... and not a single poker whinge as far as i can see ... apart from leofric obviously ...but its come to be expected nowadays

All this Zen like behaviour is very misleading tbh ... as ive hardly played at all .. and probably wont until February ... so by around the 4th Feb i expect the thread swear box to start filling up nicely...

Im going to give my old Dell Dimension 5000 computer to a mate of mine and let him see what he could add to it to make it more powerful ... i have no real problems playing on Stars .. but my computer cannot cope mass tabling anywhere else ... so im looking to spend a little money so i can mass table on these 50%+ RB sites to build up the roll asap.

My computer only has a single processor ... so apparently thats something that need looking at im told ...

Its all part of the big master plan planned for 2012 ... let the Llanlad evolution begin !!!

Start of a new year, and so many fresh faces appear. They won't last past page 4: only the hardcore can survive the emotional roller coaster that is a Llanthread.

This old computer - circa 2005, right? Forget about trying to upgrade it. In today's throwaway society, you'll get a far more bang for your buck by buying a new one. Do also bear in mind that some of the smaller poker sites don't invest enough in their software, and so it's possible you won't be able to run multiple tables smoothly even on an uber rig.

My hope is that one day ...people will use a Llanthread as a place to pop into for a relaxing few minutes ... a nice calm environment to get away from real life problems ..

That is an option .. i will let him look at what i have and he will cost up what he thinks i need ... if a new computer is cheaper .. ill either get him to build one ... or let him recommend me a newer one.

and LOL at the BDO darts ... its just brilliant entertainment ... for all the wrong reasons ..

The commentators are flogging a dead horse ... you can only congratulate someone's mid 80% 3 dart average for so long before you start to sound silly ..

Ted Hanky is without doubt my favourite player ... hopefully he wins this year .. and then buggers off to the proper darts that is the PDC ..
