These are in Vegas....of course.

First was Wednesday, Venetian Deep Stack. I finished 9th for $371 on a $150 buy in.

Second was Friday, Orleans Open Deep Stack. Finished 8th here. $3275 for $1K buy in. Gavin Smith and David Levi were in the event. Smith had a monster, absolute monster stack early, like 5*average stack, after he hit a 4 outer on the river for his life and then went nuts hitting several hands as a dog. But maybe he went too nuts as he bubbled in tenth. I didn't get the pleasure of playing with either of them. Levi pulled a huge tantrum when he called an all in which the dealer had counted as 6900 chips. The all in actually was 7200 and the floorman ruled he must pay out the whole 7200. This was a huge tantrum. Wow. He also busted late.

I came to both final tables with well above average stacks but the poker gods were not very nice to me. Well I failed to make a call as a big favorite in the first one, losing almost half my stack. Then I got busted with KK<AQs.

In the second one I also went to the FT with a big stack. After the player who finished 9th busted almost immediately we played the next 2 hours and 45 minutes without anyone busting. There must have been close to 10 hands where the shortie was all in, but he won every time. I was incredibly card dead at the FT but though some well timed position plays I was able to maintain my stack.

Then this. I raise in MP with 55 and the BB calls. I have about double his stack. The flop is a wonderful QhJs5h. A set. And villain goes all in! I call quickly and am not happy to see his cards: KhTh. Still I am a 3-2 favorite even against his OESD and flush draw. Turn is an Ace, and river is a heart just to rub it in.

That cut my stack in half and with the blinds huge I went out shortly thereafter with 98<AT. Happens.

I'm very very happy with my play, and also happy that the play of the opponents in these tournaments is surprisingly soft. Good news!

Chris

Nice one Chris - well done mate!

Shame that 55 hand didn't hold - a huge score could well have been in the offing if it did!

Ah... Vegas. So many casinos, so many poker rooms, and a new tournament starting at any time, day or night... almost brings a tear to the eye... Wink

I gather you are planning on playing a lot more of these live Vegas tourneys this year? Look forward to more reports like this one.

Cheers

Man, you are hot this summer!

If this keeps up - how much longer before FB contests are a thing of the past?
