How should I bet on the Turn here? My opponent has seemed fairly loose and bluff-tacular.
(I suspect I know the answer, but I want to double check.)
Thanks!

I think you overbet the flop a bit. Personally, something half the size of the pot would be enough to tell you where you stand.
He calls though and you hit a great card on the turn. Normally, I'd like to keep betting here, but if you got your opponent as someone who likes to bluff a lot, I might get crafty and go with the check raise. He's thinking you took a stab at it and he "caught" you by calling. You show weakness here-I think he might take the bait. |

I think you can play this a few ways. If you're betting the flop, I'd bet a bit less, though. Having done that, I might keep betting the turn, because I think he might be more likely to not buy it and bluff. Check-raising isn't bad though (you just have to be more careful on the river in that case if it checks through).
If the flush draw isn't out there, I'm more inclined to just check-call all the way (which isn't a terrible line overall, either) if he's bluffy. |

Well, here's what happened:
-I bet 300, he calls.
-The river came down,
-I bet 200 , guessing he didn't have the flush. (I think this was a stupid bet, in retrospect, at least in amount. It showed weakness.)
-He pushed all-in
For some reason I was positive he was bluffing, so I called. He showed, not a flush, but a straight (8 9 o).
So on the turn he was on a straight draw.
Regardless of how this hand turned out, with such a high chance of the board going 3 to a flush on the river. I think my play should have been to push on the turn. I think I was getting greedy. But I'm trying to decide if my logic is being tainted by the specific results here or not.
EDIT: Also, if the board wasn't so flush-y on the turn, I think fancier play was justified here. (Which means I would have still lost to his straight with the alternate board.) |

Shoving the turn is a big overbet, so I doubt it's really the best play. I don't want to go back and work out stacks right now, but 3/4 pot or so should do it.
As played, river depends a little on stacks and your read on opponent. What you did, block bet the river, is fine against non-bluffy opponents. Check-call is better vs bluffers, assuming the price is acceptable. Check-folding is fine, too, especially on a card as bad as the . |
