I've noticed that you have been posting more about no limit poker. Because Matthew's book centered on limit poker, many of us were limit grinders for a long time. Some of us (sheepishly raises hand) still play more limit poker than anything else. I fear I will never again see the money printing opportunity that was Party Poker back in the day, but I still enjoy the beautifully mathematical game of limit poker. Finding creative and effective ways to play hands and situations within a rigid structure amuses me.
However, I perceive that no limit offers a higher bonehead / thinker ratio and as someone who has always wanted to use good table selection I often wonder if I'm making a poor choice still playing primarily limit poker.
So what do you think? Is limit dying? Will allure of no limit fade as the novelty of TV poker diminishes and more sheep are shorn at the no limit game (as Mason seemed to suggest would happen long ago) or is limit destined to become the 7 card stud of the future?

Is limit dying?
I see this question as data-based. (Pun intended!) If you were to track the change in the percentage of poker tables in the world (live and internet) that are limit, that would be your answer.
Will limit die all the way out as a game spread in legal casinos? I think it might. Right now, according to nothing more than my guess, there are far more new players entering poker as no-limit players than as limit players. If that trend continues to where no new limit players are born, then 100 years or so after that, there will be no limit players on earth. The decline between now and then wouldn't necessarily be at an even pace, but it would be gradual.
Personally, I don't care one way or the other. Poker is always changing, and I just try to swim where the water is warm.

Tommy, a very belated welcome - I was on vacation until the 16th and just got around to remembering that you are the expert this month. As you know I love your book since I sent you a few emails in that subject. It has helped my game.
Players keep asking if limit is dying and the answers are all pretty much the same from expert to expert.
I like your answer to Nside - you swim where the waters are warm - I assume that is where the fish are?
I keep asking that question of myself because I really do not want to switch back to no limit for lots of reasons that would take a few pages to describe and no one is interested but me.
I play at the Oaks in Emeryville and that is my fish pond. There are not many fish there but there are some sharks and some barricades. It is a microcosm of the poker world - they only have limit poker on the poker side (4-8 Omaha and 4-8 7-stud) and they have been spreading poker there for over 100 years. They are the only place that I know of that spread $1/$2 live poker - the drop is a killer - $3.
There is enough challenge there to keep me busy until limit poker dies like low ball almost has - they spread a $20 and a $120 lowball game when they have enough players - the players are dying off slowly - one had a heart attack while I was there playing 6/12.
One player has been playing there since I was born in 1945.
So, for me I think that there will be limit poker for my foreseeable future.
The real questions is where can I make more money? Limit or no-limit. Right now it is limit even though the fad is no limit.
By the way I read a study that there will be no more Italians in Italy in 90 years since the birth rate is too low.
Do I have a question for you? I have one and will make a seperate post.
