Hi all ..

I seem to have real difficulty in motivating myself to play poker !

I would love to play 30k hands a month .. EVERY MONTH ... I have the time .. but go through phases of hardly playing !

Last month .. I tried to buckle down and tried to play 50k hands ... then i thought 30k would be ok considering my record is 16k in a month ..

But one bad run in the middle of the month ... and i did not want to play much again .. Confused

I ended playing 21761 hands that month ... a new record ! ... but room for improvement Very Happy

So this month .. the momentum is there and 30k is reachable right ?

So why the heck have i only played 2564 hands all month Rolling Eyes .. christ im in danger of losing my top VIP status after spending ages getting there !

Having seplls like this really does my head in .... I sit down and just dont want to play ...

I want to become a 30 - 50k hands a month type of player god damnit Twisted Evil

I only play 30-40k hands per month playing full time. Are you sure you're not setting yourself an unrealistic target?

So what would you think is a realistic target for someone that works between 16 - 20 hours a week and plays between 6 to 8 FR tables at once ?

Having a look over previous sessions .. it seems i average around 350 hands per hour .

So for 30k hands that roughly works out at 3 hours play per day .

I would of thought anyone can play for 3 hours a day if they put their mind to it Very Happy

Except for me of course Confused

I guess if you play that many tables then that isn't all that many hands.

As far as I can remember this is a problem that you've had for a long time is it not?

Maybe you need to approach the problem from the other direction starting from the fundamental question. Do you still enjoy poker and if not, do you make enough money at it to compensate for that?

If you're working 20 hours a week, and played 3 hours per day, if those hours are all during the week, that would bring you up to a 35 hour week. Is it possible that the way you feel about poker makes you equate it to work, and that you don't want to do 'work' things for that many hours a week?

The question I would ask is, why do you want to play 30K hands per month?

I might also wonder whether you would be better off playing fewer tables. One thing I could never quite adjust to while furiously multitabling was the effect of hitting a downswing across multiple tables. I think those moments where suddenly the amount I had across all my open tables took a nosedive contributed in some part to my gradually wanting to play less and less.

Yup ... it kinda comes and goes ... there has never been a common middle ground with me at anything ... its allways all or nothing ...... the past couple of years .. nothing has gained an advantage !

I still enjoy poker .. if someone in the pub starts a chat about it ... Im one that can talk about it for ages .. Very Happy
As for the money aspect .... for the amount of time i play ... Im happy with what i get back ... but more time means more money ... and i could do with more money !!

I work around 20hrs a week .. but that spread over 7 days .. I pop into the pub allmost every morning to sort a few things out ... make sure all the money is correct etc .

Its all a question of $$ .. I play 30k hands a month .. I can calculate i would ( on average ) earn XX amount of $$ .

I play upto 8 tables .. mainly because ( like most ) i get to reach a certain amount of hands quicker ..which means less time on the tables .... I also found having a downswing on a few tables made me want to play less ..

But thats only because i dont like downswings and cant deal with them as well as most Very Happy

Thats the reason ive started playing with only $100 stacks on the $200 tables .. I find i dont mind losing $100 .. but have more problems losing $200 Confused

Even though my bankroll tends to be around 5 figures Rolling Eyes

I still have not played anything since i started this thread ..

But im going to give myself a challenge to keep my VIP status for this month ... It basically means im going to have to play a load between now and the 30th November ..

But its pretty obvious im lacking in something that other poker players seem to have ... I just wish i could pin point what it is ..

Maybe there is no such thing as a successfull but lazy poker player ... you get out what you put in !!

Lland, are you using poker as a job? If so, then you just have to sit down and do it the way everyone else goes to their job.

If not, then you should never feel obligated to play at all. If it's not fun, don't do it. It's supposd to be a hobby.

If it's the former, and you aren't enjoying it, then it may have been a mistake to try to play poker for a living.
