I have to be honest, I just finished reading the Poker Mindset, and it is hands down the BEST poker book I have EVER read!!! (And I have read a ton of books)

I consider myself to be a very good poker player, but as for the psychology of poker, I am as newb as they come. I am an extremely emotional person, wear my heart on my sleeve, and struggle with just about everything you talked about in your book. A lot of the concepts aren't foreign to me...you hear them often in forums, articles, talking with buddies, etc...but I have never once seen a presentation the way you all have spoken to me through your book, that was actually able to get through to me in the way your book has. I couldn't put the book down from the moment I picked it up, and I have never had "anything" in poker speak SO LOUD to me in what I am struggling with every day.

Your book just became my bible!!! I have absolutely no plans to put it down now that I have finished reading it. I will dissect it, study it, and make sure I become familiar with everything in the book until it is completely burnt in my brain forever! I already have the seven concepts hanging on my bathroom mirror (to read, memorize, and think about while I am brushing my teeth, getting ready, whatever), next to my computer, hanging on a wall in the living room, and a wallet size version to take with me for live games!

I am a little embarrassed to say this, but I actually am a good player, but I suck at bankroll management. It isn't a foreign concept to me, as I have tried working on and off around this principle for some time and suffered the consequences because of it. But the way you all have explained the importance of bankroll management from a psychological stand point in the book, really changed my life and helped me to finally turn the corner on this.

I just wanted to personally thank Ian and Matthew for this life changing (at least for me) book! I don't think I possibly have the vocabulary to communicate what you both have done for me and how grateful I am to you both for it! I truly mean it when I say this is by far the biggest breakthrough I have ever had in poker and I really want to thank you guys for it.

Sincerely,
Michael

(I tried finding email addresses so I could tell you myself, but was unable to figure out how I could get through to you...I only hope this message gets through to at least one of you.)

I assure you that both Ian and Matthew will see this. It was very nice of you to take the time to hunt them down here and post.

Hi Michael

I'm glad you got so much out of TPM. When writing the book we wanted to write something that would be helpful to relative newbies and strong players alike. The psychological issues affecting players are consistent no matter what level you play at - we're all human after all!

Thanks for taking the time to post here, I'm sure I can speak for Matthew too when I say we never tire of hearing about players who have been helped by The Poker Mindset. I hope it makes you plenty of cash Smile

Regards
Ian Taylor

What are you kidding?!?! With how fast Ian got back to me (which I totally didn't expect at all), and TPM was my first exposure to both of these guys so I can honestly say, "I am hooked!"

I am tearing through the bankroll management stuff on the forums as we speak Wink

I think I will be around for a while Razz

The Poker Mindset is the perfect book for diagnosing all the psychological problems that you have with poker. For the average player there's a lot of them! As I first read through it I kind of thought that all my tilt issues would suddenly disappear because I'd read a book. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that.

The book contains a lot of great advice but adopting the poker mindset is all down to you and the effort you put in.

I still go on tilt, but it happens less often than it used to and is far less destructive now that I use proper bankroll management.

So don't expect everything to happen at once. It's a gradual and continual process.

I also ended up on this forum after reading The Poker Mindset. There are many poker forums, even in Dutch (which I am), but I figured that people who could write a book that handles poker psychology this spot on would be part of a community that I could feel welcome in.

I am a poker player that has a tendency to be borderline optimistic (if that even exists). When everything goes well, it's takes little time for me to be 'in the zone'. On the other hand, when it doesn't go so well, it's takes little time for me to think I'm a bad player and I just should stop playing.

The Poker Mindset made my moodswings less black and white. When it goes well I still keep my cool. When it goes bad I know I'll get my poker-mojo back.

I feel like The Poker Mindset has really 'got my back'.
