Stupid question: Is Hold'em played as a split pot game anywhere? If not, why not?

Just think about it, its a dumb game. You need a lot of cards to play with to play hi/lo and make it interesting.

In HE h/l the only forseable way to scoop a split pot would be to hit a wheel or nut flush/nut low and that would happen so rarely the game would kind of suck.

If you played Holdem HiLo with an 8 or better qualifier as is usual for stud and Omaha, a lot of times there would not be a low, and sometimes someone would take a low using just an ace in his hand (which you can't do in Omaha) so I don't think scooping the whole pot would be that unusual.

However, I think this is a game which is extremely rarely played and probably not that interesting. If you think it sounds like fun you might want to try Crazy Pineapple HiLo though - you get 3 cards before the flop, discard one on the flop, and from there is is basically the same as HE hilo. They have the game at Ultimate Bet although there aren't usually many games going. They always have a long list for the one table going at the Bicycle Club in LA!

Okay, you don't sound to enthusiastic. Razz I find it hard to imagine the game at all, and I can't simply try it out, because I would have to teach most of my friends hold'em first. But maybe I should try to set up a homegame to play strange games like Crazy Pineapple. Wink

Thank you.

The accepted way to play Hold'Em as a split pot game is called double flop Hold'Em. In this game you deal the flop twice, the turn twice and the river twice. Half the pot is awarded to the player who has the best hand on top and half the pot is awarded to the player who has the best hand on the bottom. Every once in a while the same player wins both.

Ah, I saw the thread about Double Flop Hold'em in this forum, but I didn't know it was played for high and low.

I remember calling Double Flop Crazy Pineapple H/L (1 orbit) in a drunken mixed game at my local club once. It sucked Wink
