In the past I've seem to have had better than expected results playing sats. I just don't play them very often. The past 6-12 months I've been playing very little poker because it really eats into my limited family time but satelites and especially the turbo ones can be fit into my schedule a lot easier than large field MTTs.
This weekend I played a few satelites and did well once again. I figured I should concentrate my time on playing satelites and hopefully pad my BR a bit while doing it. I was reading toro's 100NL challenge in the NL forum and thought I'd challnge myself to play 100 sats and see what kind of a profit I can build from it.
In general I think the low-buy-in satelites offer lots of value if your adjust your game correctly. I think I do a reasonably good job at this but I certainly have room to improve, especially when it comes to medium-stack bubble decisions.
I'll post my results here as well as a bunch of interesting or complicated hands in this thread for feedback as satelite strategy is not often discussed in this forum.
I typically play 2-3 at a time and hopefully I can squeeze in two shorrt sessions a week.
My goals would be to cash between 20-25% of the time. I think this should be achievable long term since I'll be playing a lot of rebuys and 20% of the field is often paid. Hopefully I can acheive at least a 50% ROI.
If anyone feels the urge to join me or compete with me bring it on!

Whilst you're at it, any chance you can provide some tips on beating these. I love playing sats, but suck at them.
If it helps, I'd be prepared to post some HHs on PXF.
PM me if you're interested and I'll let you know my email address.
Thanks. |

I certainly will maf... I know there was an article or post by either BD or ammbo several years ago about strategies for these. I'll go over that and try to put something into writing. I've neve been very good at putting strategies down on paper since I'm not a very technical player. I kind of rely on intuition for a lot of decisions and will often make a move because it feels like a good spot rather than knowing the fundamental reason for doing so.
I post something perhaps we can get feedback from others and if it's good we could submit it to Matthew as a article.
I probably wont do it until I've played more of them... I'm still trying out a couple of different approaches and I assume I'll get better as I play more. |

| In your summary can you include how many of each type you won? |

Thanks very much. Look forward to it. I thought the BD one was on just rebuy tournaments in general, unless there's a different one you're talking about. |

I did a bit of looking around and I found a rebuy article by BD and a couple of instructive type posts by ammbo focusing on turbo in general and a couple on satelite decisions. Ammbos posts are linked in a sticky at the top of this forum. |

I, for one, would like to watch you play.
If for no other reason to pick up a few pointers.
Where do you play, and under what name?
Oh, and is there a set price level that you play at? |

I'll be playing at PokerStars under Zutzman.
I don't mind others watching or asking questions in IRC... I'm certainly not extremely good though. The only problem I see that I won't be playing regularly. Perhaps if I now when I'll be playing with some advance notice I'll post in this thread to give anyone who cares a heads-up.
I'm really restricted to a ceratin level although I anticipate that I'll mainly play $11+r's to the $215 events. I have also played some of the smaller sats into $33, $55 or $162 events as well. I played one $33+r into a $1050 event but I probably won't play a lot of those types I may play them whenever they pop up. Basically I play whatever is available when I have a spare hour or two. |
