In 2006, poker was my only source of income and when I filed my taxes I listed my gross winnings and gross losses. I did not file as a professional and thus I did not have to pay self-employment tax.
Recently, I received a letter from the IRS basically saying that I owe self-employment tax which is substantially more than what I had already paid.
The question I have is am I unable to file as an amateur when poker is my only source of income? Is the IRS right in forcing me to pay a self-employment tax or should I try to dispute this "adjustment?" Thanks for your help...
