Preamble: I did this manually and I'm sure its not the easiest thing in the world to read. However, it was a major PITA to write so if anyone who reads this could at least try to give me some feedback I'd really appreciate it. I hope its not too hard to decipher, I did my best.
This is probably a typical spot with an easy answer but it stumped me at the table since I really don't know how to play Stud H/L very well at all.
All players are pretty typical. They bet their good hands and check/call or fold their weak ones. No crazies at the table.
3rd St action: Hero brings it in for $0.50, Seats 5 and 6 fold, Seat 7 calls, Seat 8 raises to $1, Seat 1 calls, Seats 2 and 3 fold, Hero and Seat 7 call.
Sure looks like he has a flush if your read on the table is correct. Good chance you have the best low draw, but with such a small pot you don't have the odds to draw to half the pot. Even if you just put him on trips or two pair I don't think you have the pot odds to draw for high. Even if you put him on a bluff, the guy with 2 Aces showing isn't going to fold.
I folded. Felt really weak but the pot odds just didn't seem to be there.
Do you think I was too passive prior to that? Should I have brought it in for the full bet on 3rd? I basically never bring it in for more than the minimum but I'm wondering if that's wrong.
Should I have been more aggressive on the earlier streets? Perhaps betting out on 5th after 4th got checked around? I was checking because there were some strong boards out there, I figured I had no fold equity against those boards, and I was trying to draw cheaply to my hand if they would let me.
I'm no advocate of passive play generally, but I couldn't bet anywhere here either. Two very strong boards against you, one with a likely better low draw than you, and I doubt either would fold.
I wouldn't bring it in big with your hand - with basically a low draw only you want a lot of people to play. The only time I would bring it in for full is a hand you would prefer to have fewer people in for, usually a pair.
I wouldn't double on 3th since there are many scare cards out there.
Your 4th street card is good. Probably gives you a great low draw and also a inside strait draw ! But what more important is that your drawing very live here. I would put in a bet here to thin out the field a bit.
From then on it depens how many callers you have.
I just posted a strategy post on stud hi/lo so you will find more answers there.
