I've been a loyal customer of a local casino for about 6 months now. I've come to know the dealers pretty well, and have become acquaintances of some other players.

Two weeks ago, the management posted a notice saying they would no longer take call-ins for spots in a tournament, since people would sometimes call, and would show up an hour late or not at all.

Yesterday, I arrived at the cashier's window at 2:50 to pay for the 3PM tournament. The "official" cut-off time is 2:45, but there were still people in line, as usual. They will often let you buy the dead stacks 20 minutes after the tournament begins.

When I stepped to the window, I was told the tournament was sold out. I looked, and there were only 4 dealers that were setting up. This tourney almost always has 5 tables, sometimes as many as 7. On their website, they mention that the average payout is for 50+ players. They said they were stopping at 4 today.

I asked the manager what the deal was, and he said he had posted a note about call ins, and he was sorry. I mentioned to him that I didn't call in, and the note said nothing about people walking in 5 minutes after the posted deadline. He shrugged and said nothing.

A guy I know approached me and said I could potentially buy his wife's entry, since she was chip leader at the last tournament, and was still playing. This is done all the time, I've seen the same spot sold three times, and have probably seen this happen 25 times total.

So I sit down, and wait for her to return from break. The tournament starts, and 10 minutes later, I see another guy walk up to the poker room manager, and says something to him I can't hear. The manager then walks into the cashier cage, and prints something out, and the guy walks to the tournament area, and sits down, and is given chips. Shocked

Finally, the woman I am buying the seat from shows up, I give her the cash, and get her receipt. I walk to the cashier, who happens to be standing next to the poker room manager. I tell her what's happened, and she goes to re-print the receipt. The poker room manager tells me I can't buy seats. I say, I've seen it done many times. He said, "Not when I am around." I look at him increduously, and reply, "I have seen you do it yourself." He tells me I am mistaken, and tells the cashier to hand the receipt back, and tells me to get my money back from the original purchaser.

This ticks me off. Evil or Very Mad I've essentially been denied 3 times in 15 minutes a chance to give them my entry fee. I drove 70 miles to drive right back home again. Another player just walks in, and without even cash changing hands, sits right down.

Should I just brush it off? This is by far the best tournament poker room around, and I'd hate to basically have to give up live poker. Crying or Very sad

I didn't get to the Gilpin this weekend, however I played at Golden Gates which was a pretty good room full of fish and for the most part, the employees were pretty nice. Have you ventured your way into that room? Not sure if they have a $300 like the Gilpin...but they have an $80 at noon with 8k starting stacks.

Actually, I did hang around and play the 80$ Heartland League tourney last night at the Gates. There were only 2 tables, and I never really got anything going, and my AKs lost to QJx when I shoved a guy who was on a steal.

I certainly hope that 2 tables is not the average at the Gates.

Shocked

Their $80 on Sat at noon was 5 tables, pressed with 11 per table.
Crippling hand was QQ<KK about 40 min into the tourney. Raise CO all-in on rag flop, he called thinking I had AA after a min or so of goin into the tank. Thought he was gonna fold Smile

The 7pm $60 had 6 full tables
Made it to the final table where my QQ<K2s when the K fell on the turn.
