| I only saw bits and pieces of the telecast, but it appeared to me that Scotty was way out of line at the final table. In addition to being drunk and abusive (pretty much a hallmark of his play all the time), he did several things that were pretty much automatic sit-out penalties or worse. I saw one hand where Michael DiMichelle was facing a decision on 7th street where Scotty showed his down cards to the crowd. In another he openly told Eric Lindgren that he was trying to protect Eric's tourney life ("I bet so you could raise to protect your hand") and in another hand he folded AAxx in O8 in an extremely questionable spot that could have eliminated Eric who held A2QQ and needed to catch a low to chop. Eric even went out of his way to distance himself, saying "I'm not a member of Team Scotty and I never will be" |

| I was thinking the same thing as I was watching. I have lost a lot of respect for Scotty after seeing this. |

Here is 10 min montage of his antics including cursing his opponents out, cursing out the waitress service, showing the audience his cards, soft playing Lindgren and dropping like 25 f-bombs.
How did he not get penalized? Would they let an unknow go crazy like this?
I like it when Lindgren gives him some grief back. |

I also only watched a few minutes. Just awful.
It's a sad day for poker and a ratings day for Harrahs and ESPN. What a shame. Hellmuth's ruling was one thing....but after seeing how Men was pampered at my table, and now this ridiculous response, or lack thereof, by Harrahs to Scottie's behavior all I can say is.... |

This was mentioned a while back on PokerRoad Radio. I haven't seen the footage yet, but I think it's disgraceful that tournament officials let these "superstars" like Scotty, Men the Master, Phil Helmuth, etc get away with this sort of behaviour all the time.
Yet you can guarantee if we acted like that, we'd been penalised straight away. |

oh I loved Lingren's attitude and the way he dealt with it
I must admit that if anyone spoke to me like that at a poker table I would be wanting to take it outside and that goes for much of Helmuths behaviour
btw have you guys seen this classic
I watch it everytime I make a right move and get called by the top of the other fella's range.... it is "standard" after all

What's funny is that in an interview with a UK poker magazine Scotty claimed not to have been drunk and it was all an act.
The televisual evidence suggests otherwise and from that clip he comes across a total a-hole.
The Hellmuth clip is just class though |

| First, I thought they had an "F-Bomb" rule at the WSOP, right?? This was really bad.....the drunkeness, the foul and just plain rotten table behavior. I was glad to see Lindgren say something back at him. He looked pretty annoyed with Scotty's behavior. And let us not forget Scotty's equally drunk rail buddy Layne Flack for acting like an S.O.B too. Lindgren wanted no part of him at the end either. What a mess...........yikes! |

I watched that clip that Taz linked and it was utterly disgusting.
I have the ESPN one taped and will just hit ERASE. |

They changed it this year so that just saying the F word wasn't a penalty unless it was addressed to a specific player. My understanding is that Scotty received repeated "warnings" but no actual penalties.

Reportedly Flack had a big piece of Scotty's action. Pauly of taoofpoker reported that it was 36%. I'm not certain, but I think that makes his act worse.
There is absolutely a different standard applied to name pros than regular joes. During the 1.5k limit event, Vinnie Vinh was repeatedly abusive and annoying and they did essentially nothing about it. |

| You definitely saw a dark side to Scotty in this. Really unfortunate. This kind of stuff is one of the big reasons I try not to mix drinking and poker. |

That was great.
More real cards in that last bit of the tournament than all the fake garbage that has been served up on TV over the years. |

That was more out of line than anything I've ever seen him do before. However, it was not completely out of character, just something of an exaggeration of his usual MO. Both he, Phil Helmuth and Mike Matusow use an approach where they frequently harass and belittle the play of other players. Phil essentially makes no effort to wrap it in charm or humor, Mike tries to some degree to pass it off as just "having fun" and Scotty is successful to a large degree in seeming like a charming funny guy, while he still gives you the needle. The more he loses and the more he drinks, the more pointed his comments seem to be and the less fun they are. The fame of "You call me, it all over baby" has led him to try to influence the other player on tons of decisions and you did get something of a feel for how that works. He alternates lying and telling the truth about his hands fairly effectively and I think he gets calls that he wouldn't get without his constant chatter.
I also think that style of criticism of other people's play is always uncool and it annoys me that guys like Phil and Scotty get away with it. If I was that obnoxious, I'd get multiple penalties. I think Eric and Michael did a good job of dealing with his abuse and didn't let it get into their heads, but I really don't think they should allow that kind of crap.
On the other hand, the only time I've personally seen Scotty was interacting with railbirds and he was always patient and friendly to them. And in the 2+2 thread, Todd Brunson (who was a backer of Scotty) says that this was very unsual for Scotty and that he is usually very nice. I'm not entirely convinced because I seem to remember a drunken Scotty being a jerk at a WSOP Stud event a few years ago. |
