| Perhaps this is simply the perspective of someone who has little skill at the game, but it has always seemed to me the only reason to play razz is that over half the people at a typical razz ring table haven't a clue what they're doing. This allows you to make up for the vicious swings luck can put on you by making some fish pay you off on your wheel. Without the fish, it's little more than a luck-fest. I'm not saying there's no skill involved, but I'd put it at something like 90% luck, 10% skill. I don't see it proving much among players of even remotely similar skill levels. At least not in a tournament format. |

| While much of what you say about Razz tournament (many people don't know how to play it, so it makes for a lot more fish), I think Razz has a lot of strategy to it. Sure, there's luck involved, much like any card game, but I think there is quite a bit of strategy in Razz. |

Well i actually enjoyed it ... I had 20 mins practice earlier in the day ..
Once i got a grasp of the basics ... it was fun to play something else ..
I think if Toro had not fluked a 3 on the river ... I might have got to the final table ..!!
That left me with $51 and i had to pay $50 becuase my cards where KKQ .. which i thought was Stars way of rubbing it in
But nevertheless ... really enjoyed it ... and looking forward to learning other forms over poker through the ITH league .. |

I'm not saying it isn't fun once in a while. My point was that the balance of luck to skill in razz swings so far toward luck that, given opponents of even remotely close skill levels and the short term nature of any single tournament, you might as well be rolling dice as playing razz.
If the point of maintaining a leaderboard is to reflect the level of skill of the people involved, a heavily luck-based game like razz isn't a very good choice of game.
If we were talking just the razz round of a HORSE tournament, the huge luck factor would have far less influence on the overall outcome. I'm okay with razz as part of the HORSE rotation, but I'm not keen on it as the whole of the tournament.
And, really, I'm not complaining because I don't know how to play it. I do have a vague clue of what I'm doing. I've played maybe a couple hundred hours of ring razz. I'm okay with that format most of the time because, as I said before, probably half the people at the table (at least at the tables I've played) have no idea what they're doing. Even out the skill factor, though, and it's just a luck-fest. |

I personally wish there were more Razz SNGs. The play is soooooooooo bad as few people know how to play it and when to make value raises.
I'm fine with it in the league. |
