Up to now, I have been playing very passively pre-flop, usually just limping, or sometimes calling a raise after I have already limped. I have only been raising AAXX when one of the aces was suited, or when there were two other broadway cards.
This style is actually profitable, but obviously not optimal.
My questions are:
1) What hands are worth a raise, either opening or after limpers, and by how much?
2) What hands are worth calling a raise, either cold or after limping? What about after a raise and a re-raise?
I assume you play at quite low limits? PLO10, PLO25? You you play short-handed or full ring?
If so, then raising only has one purpose: Building a pot when you have an equity edge and good position. Other hands you might raise are: KKxx with some extra's (beware of someone else (re)-raising), QQJT (double suited), JT98 (double suited).
I wouldn't raise AAxx from early position, unless you can get 35% of you stack in the pot. You don't want to announce that you have a AAxx and have a 90 big bets left in your stack, since you will only get action then if you are beat. You can still limp-raise with AAxx if that gets the required 35% of you stack in the pot.
