|
|
Hi all,
For a little variety in my poker playing I thought I would try some Pot Limit Omaha (so be gentle with me!). I'll get a book or two when I finish the FGO at Playboy but for now I'd appreciate some advice on extracting the most value on the river with my top set (there is a backdoor straight possibility but that seems pretty unlikely).
Do I put in my remaining chips and hope for a call? Or a smaller 'call me' bet? Or check to try to induce a bluff?
Ultimate Bet Pot-Limit Omaha High, $.25 BB (8 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)
MP1 ($48.61)
MP2 ($26.52)
CO ($5.06)
Button ($30.29)
SB ($63.64)
BB ($8.71)
UTG ($29.53)
Hero ($23.25)
Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with A , 9 , A , 4 .
UTG calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, MP1 calls $0.25, MP2 calls $0.25, 2 folds, SB completes, BB checks.
Flop: ($1.50) 9 , A , 8 (6 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $1.5, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, Button calls $1.50, SB calls $1.50, BB folds, UTG calls $1.50.
Turn: ($7.50) 3 (3 players)
SB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $7.75, Button calls $7.75, SB calls $7.75, UTG folds.
River: ($30.75) 7 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero ??? |

| With two callers, JT is quite likely given the betting patterns. I think your problem is not extracting value, but should you call a PSB. I check for sure. If button bets pot, you might call button only if you don't perceive him as very tight. If button bets and SB calls or raises, I'm outta there. Button and SB both have more than max buy-in stacks, so they aren't total donks. |

Thanks for that toom.
I should have added that the table was very loose - typically 6-7 players to the flop (including the 2 villains in question). I take your point though, I was quite dismissive of JT but it is a possibility.
I was told by a friend that he basically just nut-peddles at low stake PLO and finds he makes a decent return that way. With so many people drawing, with 4 cards, the winning hand is usually at least a straight he argues. Is this the way that I should be looking at it? (Guess I need those books sooner rather than later ) |

Nut-peddling is always profitable at OH and O8 if the table is sufficiently loose. It's wise too, because the occasional orphan or small pot (the ones that keep you even while waiting for the big pots) is easier to get without much effort.
Unfortunately, online poker at US friendly sites is so ridiculously tight in the cash games that I've stopped playing cash almost totally (online, not live); it's that tight. I can't speak to the non-US friendly sites. |
