This one is pretty bad all round.

Limping KQs in EP 8 handed is pretty bad. Calling raises with KQs is asking for trouble but you're getting pretty inviting odds. When pretty much everyone sees the flop, top pair second kicker is NEVER good when more than one person show some interest. When your raise gets 3-bet what do you ever beat? You think he has QJ? Find the fold button!

Just fold these preflop unless you're in late position and you can come in for a raise. KQ out of position is a trouble hand.

I'd limp with this after the first limper although I can get in trouble with so many to act behind me. Then I'd call the preflop raise with those odds although I can get in trouble. However, I am not trying to flop top pair, I'm trying to make top two or a flush or a straight. That is a dangerous board and I'm just mucking to the first bettor.

You don't play this for top pair.

I'll take a 60 chip loss here with these odds. It is important to realize that when you are in a big multiway pot like this top pair second kicker on a dangerous board is not what you want. Compare this to a different hand: someone raises in middle or late position preflop, you call, and then you flop TPKK it's worth a call on the flop. But proceed carefully and don't build a pot. These trouble hands are trying to make top two pair or better.

One more thing....a horrible player wouldn't even ask if he played this correctly. Wink

I guess I am just very confused about starting hands in NL/PL. I assumed that KQs would play the same way in limit as it does in NL. It appears anytime I play a hand I would think would be good to play I get told the opposite. I am grateful that. How do the starting hands differ between the two games? Or is there any links/books that could be suggested to help with this?

Big cards usually win small pots and lose big ones in NL. I don't play limit but the differences in the two are literally night and day. I bet you would understand NL faster if you had never played limit.

Hope others like nside chime in on this because he plays both.

Part of my problem is I want to learn it all limit, no limit, and tournaments. Need to pick with one and stay with it for a while, but I tend to hop.

This might not be possible, but how about this?

If you're gonna play all three, divide your BR in thirds and stick to it.
This could give you another stat on which game you're better at and which require help.

Also, remember, that they are all different animals and require some different skills.

On the flop we have hit top pair but I wouldn't think the hand would be worth all my chips here. I have 5 opponents in a raised pot so I would want to be careful with this hand.

The flop is tricky though as SB has bet small suggesting a drawing hand. Merely calling this might induce a raise from behind and it looks a bit silly to fold here. I think re-raising is aggressive but It might be ok to get heads up against a drawing hand. I think I'm just calling though and seeing what the pre-flop raiser does.
