I'm posting my standard play for a...
Open-ended straight draw on a 2 flush board with at least 4 villans still in the hand

i.e.
Hero is dealt 5 of Spades 6 of Spades
***Flop*** 3 of Hearts 4 of Diamonds King of Hearts

I play this hand close to how I play KJo. Though there are big differences between the two hands but both of them can become "trap" hands. In early position I usually check and I bet-out with my straight-draw in late position but if someone bets before me or bets after I check (and none of my reads indicate they are weak) then I am folding/calling depending on pot odds. The pot odds I use are 8 outs - 2 outs (b/c 2 of the outs make a flush possible) for a total of 6 real outs with 48 cards left in the deck. (8:1 + implied odds) decides my move.

So usually I'm not going to get into a tough situation where I have a straight and there's a flush possible from the board. However if I do I usually try my best to bet/raise as much as needed to define villans hand and play accordingly.

Please keep in mind this is not how I play this hand every time I adjust my play depending on alot of things but this is the play I am most likely to fall back on.

I'm posting my standard play because I believe there could be a better way to play this. Thoughts?

As with all good poker questions, it depends. Some important considerations:

-Is this NL or Limit?
-cash game or tournament?
-effective stack sizes?
-Reads on opponents?
-What are the styles of the opponents in the hand?
-What do you perceive your table image to be?
-What are the current table dynamics?

Those are just the questions off the top of my head. To me this is a very read dependent play and I think to say there is a "right" or "wrong" or "better" way to play these depends on a multitude of factors.

Hm...I think I'll post a hand where this comes up since it does indeed depend. I'll probably run into one in my next few games I'll put one up after.
