My default is calling with K8o here but button is very LAG and showdown bound and should pay off nicely so I called.

2/4, 5 players

Preflop: Hero is in the SB with 6 K
2 folds, Button calls 2.00, Hero calls 1.00, BB raises to 4.00, Button calls 2.00, Hero calls 2.00.

Flop (14.00) 6 2 9
Hero checks, BB bets 2.00, Button calls 2.00, Hero raises to 4.00, BB calls 2.00, Button calls 2.00.

Turn (26.00) A
Hero bets 4.00, BB raises to 8.00, 1 fold, Hero calls 4.00.

River (42.00) 4
Hero checks, BB bets 4.00, 1 fold

IF I would initially call this preflop, I will fold once BB raises. The initial call is very thin to begin with but now BB shows so much strength, I think you should fold. On the flop, I will just call to see how things develop. I think raising is pointless as you won't chase away anyone and you are not pushing any value. As played, I can live with the turn and river.

Why am I not pushing value with the river check/raise? The pre flop aggressor bets with 100% and a LAG just calling is seldom a pair or better. So I should have way over 33% (probably more then 50% too!)

Hmmmm, true. One thing you do need to have when playing like this is a plan what to do when someone raises you. I assume you were calling down if the LAG raised you instead of the other player?

I would be more tempted to just call and see what develops, but your line might very well be better. On problem with your line is that you may not be a favorite against the hands they are calling down with, meaning you cannot really valuebet. But you can maybe check-call the river then. Really not sure about all this.

I think check/raising the flop does gain you a lot of value on that street alone. Its true that the turn gets somewhat tougher to valuebet but on the other hand the turn gets really tough to play by just calling the flop too! (often you will be giving free cards to worse hands by calling) So the turn bet after the flop check/raise does give you value on any turned (or flopped) draws and it can get easy to pitch or turn into a "call to improve" depending on the turn action. Coupled with the protection value in a big pot i think the turn bet is pretty clear and the river is often a check/call.

In this hand I call the turn raise to prevent myself from getting screwed by free SD raise and sometimes an improved 2 pair will be good.
