Yeah, I've got a pool in my garden. Haven't we all? Even Bull's got a thread about building one, so I figured they must be commonplace by now.

After the recent weather in the UK I've got some quite large puddles in my back garden - does that count?

Insanity is on hold this week.

Yesterday was a couple of hours of tennis outside. Not the best surface as the courts were built on a landfill or an Indian burial ground or something, which makes for a very uneven bounce. I strained a tendon in my wrist a couple of weeks ago, and it still hasn't healed yet - if it's not on the mend by next week, I'll have to give the tennis a rest for a couple of weeks.

Tonight I braved the pool again. A few people in there at 5.45, but as soon as I turned up they started leaving. Could have been the sun moving off the pool, could have been the sight of a skinny white fella with a little belly wearing jammers. Of course, if you turn up to swim looking so foolish, you have to produce the goods. Unfortunately I find crawl really difficult - I'm a natural sinker, so overkick to keep my legs afloat which means I get puffed out after about 4 lengths. Backstroke is a pain in an outdoor pool as there's no ceiling as a reference for where the end is, I can't swim butterfly, so breaststroke it is. And the only manly way to swim breaststroke is either very fast or very far. By length 76 I had the pool to myself, and I clocked up 110 lengths before stopping, which is around a mile.

The weather's supposed to peak tomorrow at 29 degrees, so I'll aim for another swim after work.

Bit of both fella, bit of both. Once I've driven off the women, the men start to feel awkward when they realise all they have to oggle is my arse in spandex, and so soon follow.

One couple I really can't understand. She is early 20's, and absolutely stunning. I mean, proper stunning - much better than that chick in your avatar. Seems lovely too. He's late 20's, and comes across as a bit of a whiny twat. Not a looker by any stretch of the imagination either, and she should be so far out of his league that they're playing a different sport. They've had a baby, so I can only assume he's absolutely minted, or got her so blind drunk that she couldn't stand and impregnated her without her knowledge.

Each to their own i suppose ...

She's not just hot in the obvious way ... there is a under current of horniness that goes off the scales to her ....

I see these things in women ...

Its fair to say ... i would not reach the same conclusion if i saw Dogs's arse in spandex ..

    Or ...... would i ????

And on the " proper stunning " women you mention ... why dont you ask her why she is with the guy ... or at least make the effort to find out ....i would make it my duty to find out.

Tough to workout inside when it's amazing outside, especially in an area where weather doesn't always cooperate.

Do you feel any changes yet? (Other than the tennis win?)

It's hard to say, as I'm not really sure what I'm expecting. When we did Body For Life several years ago on this forum, I remember my arms being so sore that I could barely wipe my arse after the first workout. I haven't had anything like that, but it could be because I'm coming from a fitter base. It's also worth noting that whilst I'm exercising pretty much every day, I'm not following the programme exactly as intended.

One thing I did notice today was that I went out for a couple of hours and forgot to put my orthotics in my shoes. The biggest downside of that BFL experience is that I absolutely ruined my shins, and they still haven't recovered 5 years later. I tape them up to play tennis, and use orthotics pretty much all the time otherwise they ache from walking. I didn't get that today. I'm convinced the only way my shins might ever recover is if the muscles are strengthened, and I'm secretly hoping that the exercises here may do it.

The two week fit test will be my first real measure of how things are progressing. After next Tuesday, it's very possible that I will have to give tennis a break for a couple of weeks, as my wrist still isn't fixed. The weather is also due to break in the next couple of days, so it should see me focusing more on Insanity.

When you have time, I'd be interested in hearing a bit more about the P90X. I don't really have much of an idea what it entails, or where its focus lies.

'So... why are you with the father of your child?'

It's slick advice like this that makes you the ladies' man.

You could at least make the effort to fish for a little background !!

Just being friendly imo ... she might be thankful to talk to a non whiny twat for a change ( i presume your not a whiny twat ? ) ... plus you can snigger to yourself when it looks like it winds him up.

Lets be fair ..every whiny twat hates someone talking to his missus.

You could easily find out how long they have been together and get a good idea whats going on.

I cannot see the problem really ... just being friendly.

    Day 9 - Pure Cardio

A few miles in the pool and several hours on court have been racked up, but time to return to the programme. I won't be playing tennis for a couple of weeks to hopefully let a wrist strain heal, and the summer has gone again so the pool is less tempting.

I was quite up for it, motivated by the Olympics and all that. Started the warm up… through the first set… past the second… into the third where he pushes you for more, and I tweak a shoulder muscle during the jumping jacks. Stop for a couple of minutes and tried to restart, but even moves such as jogging made it grumble so I stopped completely. About 10 minutes of exercise done.

Twice now, I've started day 9 and failed to complete it. Usually I'd stubbornly continue until it was done, but this time I'll probably move on: if I complete the next 4 days then I'll be on a rest day on Thursday when I'm planning on going to see The Dark Knight.

As an aside - shins aren't fixed at all. Sometimes I wonder if I'd be happier as a fat man who sits in front of the telly eating pies, rather than picking up injures all the time.

Why do you pick up so many injuries ??

I can have long spells of sitting on the couch eating crap ( not pies though ) .. and then i get some inspiration from somewhere and start to work out .

I can do treadmill sessions and weights most days and not really pick up any injuries ... apart from the fact my calf would stiffen up and hurt during running ... although even that seems to have stopped now.

And i doubt you would be happy being fat ... so keep at it , i may want to thrash you at tennis one day

Day 10 - Plyometric Cardio Circuit

The shoulder strain seems ok. That just leaves the long-standing shin issue, the recent wrist problem, and a previously unmentioned intermittent knee twinge. Par for the course when you're past 30, I'm sure.

For whatever reason, this remains the toughest workout for me. I'd be a rubbish boxer; I've never been in a fight in my life, but as soon as my body hits the floor it seems to want to stay there rather than going through the effort of getting back up. This time around I sat out the penultimate circuit, before coming back in for the end. Sweating buckets even in the relative cool.

Almost had a wardrobe malfunction in the middle, as the shorts I was wearing just didn't want to flex into the squat position. A swift change and I was off again; did consider carrying on in my pants, but felt that was a step too far.
