Villain is 34/10/0.7 with WTSD% of 56 but only 55 hands.

Villain takes a strange line by checking the flop but I felt that with his lack of aggression post flop the chances of him check raising this flop were small so I bet my OESD in postion to re evaluate the turn. When he calls the flop I figure he's going to raise the turn with an oddly played overpair or he's planning to get his A high to showdown. With the turn pairing the board I figure there's a slim chance of him folding A high now so I take the free card.

I don't make a habit of taking a free card HU and despite the fact I have plenty of outs if called I think villains 3 bet pre makes checking correct here.

Thoughts?

I agree that the chances that he is check/calling down is increased somewhat on this board. But I think the chances that he is going to check/raise turn with an overpair are really slim. So I would bet. The pot is big, you have good equity, he is unlikely to check/raise and there is a small chance he will fold.

What hands can villain fold here if you bet the turn? A small pocket pair won't fold here, especially with such a brick on the turn. Some holds for AK, AQ and AJ. And KQ, KJ or QJ all have outs to a strait. And since I don't think he will fold anything here, checking is clearly best. River is obvious, even if he is 'bluffing', he probably bluffing with a better hand.

I will probably play this the same way, although I might be tempted to check behind the flop.

villain seems to be worried the flop texture (e.g. 8j hit the nuts), he maybe 3 betting with a8s or kj or better, to sum up I don't think you can call the river and win in showdown most of the time.

it's very possible that he's also on draw, i.e. A8s so he planned on calling a bet on flop and turn, but you didn't bet the turn so he just fire the river figuring that you will fold most of the time. he may hv a hand like 88 or lower pair and hope it gets check all the way thru to river and see if he wants a bet in the end.

All in all you lost the minimum with the draw so well played.
