I'm reading the o8 section in Super System II at the moment, in addition I've read one or two articles from the internet. Now I wonder: Why does everyone write about limit o8, when most of the tables you can find in online poker rooms (like UB, Stars and the Cryptos) are pot limit?

Is this an online phenomenon exclusively?

I see several Omaha 8 fixed limit tables on Stars. You need at look at Omaha Hi/Lo games, not at the Omaha Hi games.

I know. Wink

When I looked first it was earlier in the day, and there few limit tables. Even now I think there are more pl/nl tables. At the Cryptos (where I like to play) I haven't yet seen a single limit table, but there are nearly always pl tables open.

I sometimes play stud hi/lo and traffic there is also very low in the afternoon european time. Traffic becomes better when North America wakes up.

That's the problem. I usually play at Stars in the morning or around noon, when traffic at the Cryptos, where I get rakeback and can chase bonuses, is still low.

But it really seems that Stars is about the only site with decent O8 PL traffic - judging by the ratings at bonuswhores.com . It seems most players like PL better, writers FL. Strange.

I'm a bit disappointed that it's so hard to find any games other than hold'em actually. Your experiences with stud hi/lo fit in nicely.

There are a decent number of limit O8 games at Full Tilt and Ultimate Bet.

At UB there is one table at $2/4 and two tables at 0.25/.05 right now. But it seems UB may at least be worth a look from time to time.

I'll sign up at Full Tilt though. Maybe that'll help. Wink

I haven't played much at UB for about the last month, but before that there were always at least 3 or 4 games going between 2/4 to 5/10 limits, sometimes more. I was usually playing in evening US east coast time though. There might not be many games at Full Tilt right now either. You might have to start staying up late!

When you wrote this I was already on my way to the bedroom. Razz

I got a bit carried away with complaining I, I think. Basically playing hold'em and PL O8 is okay for me, although I would prefer limit. I was just wondering why all the books and articles seem to be about limit, when there are by far more PL games, at least online.

The books are about limit O8, because as far as I know, pot limit O8 didn't even exist before it started being spread online. I am pretty sure this has never been spread live at casinos in the US, but limit O8 was very popular in parts of the US maybe 10 years ago, and there are still a few games around now. Maybe PL O8 is or has occasionally been spread in Europe, but I haven't really heard about it there either, only about PL Omaha high only.

That explains it. And due to my lack of poker background I don't know anything about the history of the game.

speaking of games.....last summer there were numerous 5/10 and 10/20 full ring O8 games at stars....I dont play much 08 anymore, but the last couple of times Ive looked they barely have any games running (sometimes no full ring).

There are SH games going on, but they were pretty juicy last year....did the fish lose their money and the games dried up? Any other explinations?

I used to be able to sit and grind consistent profits at mid-limit PL and L tables up until middle of last year. I did that whenever I ran bad in MTTs, and I could always rebuild it in O8 ring games, and I don't consider myself any better than okay.

Now, I can't really win. I played for one hour last night on Stars, four tabling (2-50/1, 1 1/2, 1 2/4) and broke even, winning enough to really only cover the rake. I know there's short term variance involved in that, but it really seems that the good players are now just passing money around and only the great ones are winning.

Thanks again Rob and Willem, I have now signed up at Full Tilt.

Now I prefer to play at UB, but sometimes it's hard to find mid-limit tables there. Full Tilt is better, there were even two full ring tables there this (european) morning.

After having gained some experience I find I prefer playing fixed limit a lot. I did well at pot limit at the beginning, but after having lost $100 in one hand chasing the nut flush and a weak low heads-up I decided it would do me better to stick to limit. Laughing

I think the fact that you only broke even in your last session seems to be mainly because of the variance, I'd suspect, toom. I don't think the games aren't that tough, and I'm certainly not a good player.

It is true though, that the players aren't as bad as some articles suggest. I am happy if I find a table with more than 40 % of the players seeing the flop.

You won't be able to find PLO8 in your local casinos but you'll probably find a LO8, most of the day and most of the night. Limit Omaha8 used to be pretty good at Party Poker but when it went down, the whole Omaha8 fish seemed to have disappeared.

But once in a while, you'll find some juicy games at UB, FT, Stars, and so on and so forth... Hopefully, there will be another Neteller where all the fish can deposit easily and safely, so they can donate to us. Laughing Laughing Laughing
