I hear people say that playing shorter than maximum buyin increases your variance. I would like to know some numbers though.
Half buyin?
Quarter buyin?
These numbers would not only help in a BR management aspect but I would have a comparative number to see how accurate my playing style is to what I would like.

Try asking this in the NL forums - I'm not sure what the answer is. I'm also not sure that shortstack increases variance (although it might). I think it may actually reduce your variance (assuming you play a correct shortstack strategy).
But it's all conjecture on my part and I don't have any numbers to back it up since I don't play (much) NL.
