Well, I've spent most of today just trying to get the cloud from around my head from the lack of sleep this weekend. Going to try and go through a fairly good report. Going to start by posting the few pictures that I have. I had planned on taking a lot for a good photoalbum, but I got yelled at for taking pictures in the casino and then never had my camera with me at good times. So, without further ado:
Pretty much going to just post the pictures and who I can identify. Will get to descriptions of my trip afterwards.
Bull getting ready to sit down at our Friday Limit event. In the background in seat 1 is Primitive, then LJDorey and Victim (Torch's wife) sitting with her back to me. I was sat in between Dorey and Bull.
SuitedPair, Victim, Rocketplayer (who loves to get monsters against my great hands)
Ammbo and Matthew
Suited and Ed Miller
Primitive and Sami
Osmosis(far left), Torch (back to us), Bull, Niin (next to Bull I believe), PokerElmo (Grey Sweatshirt with back to camera), JaneG in green, Wade (Tan hat)
Working around the table, Tanya, PokerElmo, Sandstorm, Nside, Matthew, Sami.
Piscivorous, SuitedPair, Ed Miller, Wynton.
Just a generic picture
Ammbo, KrazyTxan, Bull, LJDorey |

Ok, now for the fun stuff.
Thursday-
I was still at home celebrating my fathers b-day and ended up having a very drunken night with my family over dinner that involved 6 pitchers of Sangria and a bunch of very strong/good margaritas. Did not go that night.
Friday-
Had to put my son on the bus and left home at 8:30am. Not too horrible of a drive and arrived in AC right at 11:30. Missed the very beginning of the seminar, but was able to make a pretty nice "Who is this now joining us" type of an entrance Really enjoyed the Q&A with Ed and was quite a treat.
After the seminar, we were forced to move into the regular pokerroom since the tables that were in our area had not been "Inspected" since the tournament that had been held there the night before, so off we go. A couple of observations that I made during the limit event.
1. Primitive will play any 2 cards at any time for any price (almost). I don't think he folded more than 3 hands PF the whole time I was in the tournament. LJDorey played a fairly straight forward game and definitely has a solid game and liked to pal it up with everyone at the table. Bull was quite the tight player preflop believe it or not and he earned a lot of respect from me when he raised. Suited hates when I call her raises Victim, whom I had met before, is a sweetheart and really can play some limit poker. We'll talk about NL tournament poker later for her though.... Rocketplayer...oh rocket. Rocket seems to be a card rack against me specifically Example- Me AQs from UTG, he is on the button and calls my raise. Board A94Ax.....Ouch. He flopped another set against me and he did hit quads against someone else with 99 on the button again. Now for some reason, after a very very short period of time, I became known as the biggest calling fish pf in the world. More on that later.....
With the huge hands that I had that ran into rough ones, I didn't last very long in the limit event. Off I went to play some real poker. Having not a lot of cash to oreally be gambling around with, just decided ahead of time to just play some low limit poker and just have some fun with it. I went and got a rack of white chips ($100) and joined the list for a 2/4 game. When they called my name I sat down and I was by far the youngest (36) player at the table by 30 years or so. I think there were more batteries at this table than in Jenna Jamison's lingerie drawer. This game was truly the most loose/passive game that I have ever seen. It became clear after about 2 hours that if someone raised, they had AA. There were generally 7-8 players preflop and usually 3 handed at showdown. An example of this is the following:
I am in the SB with . A guy in EP was the only folder PF and it comes to me and I raise, all call. So 9 players pf w/ 2 bets each. Flop is . I lead out and get 4 callers. Turn is a blank and I bet again and get 2 callers. River is nothing, bet and 2 callers and I truly believe my hand is good. I flip over my AJ expecting to have the pot pushed to me and a gentleman seated 2 seats to my right flips over The table was soooooo boring so I decided to try and liven it up a bit and started raising dark and so forth and some of the table had fun with it but when I annoucned I needed to leave for Event #2, one older gentleman says "You won't be missed" and was totally serious about it. I headed over to the registration area for event #2 at this point. This was when Krazytxan got to experience my famous margaritas and I'll let her comment on that if she chooses to. For some reason, I really don't recalll that tournament that well as the drinks had really started flowing. After that, I went back out to the 2/4 game and really started putting some drinks down and trying to liven the table up a bit. After quite a while, I was pulling a lot of raising UTG dark, calling 3bets with pretty much anything etcetera just trying to have some fun. I think it was about 1am or so when all of a sudden I get a tap on my shoulder. I look up and it's Ammbo. I was in the BB and said to him, "I'm gonna raise my BB dark" after there were like 7 limpers. He looks at me and smiles. "Raise!" So we see a flop with 7 people and the board comes . The guy in the SB leads out so I say, I guess I should look at my cards now. I look down at Ammbo sees this and almost spits his drink out. I raise, utg folds, next guy (loose aggro) 3 bets, folds to cutoff who calls 3 cold, sb caps it for me! I call, ep aggro folds, cutoff calls. So 29sb's in the pot heading to the turn which was a blank. Capped 3 ways. Now we are getting a serious pot brewing. 27bb's in the pot at this point and the turn was a . I'm like "Oh ****, the boat just hit". SB, who had been more agressive in this hand than I was, open folds , I bet and cutoff calls. 29bb pot is good with the flopped straight. (MY story at the convention was a bit more inflated, this is an accurate account now). Played there until about 4am and then crashed.
Saturday-
Woke up around 8am and realized 2 things. 1, I had never brought in my stuff from my truck and 2, I had not eaten anything the day before. I heard Elmo getting into the shower and I walked out to my truck to get my stuff and when I got back, he was gone with a note in the door" Gone for food and to check into a game." I showered up and went for the buffet. Hmmm, that was almost a mistake as I wasn't sure if it was going to stay down. Definitely not the best buffet in the world, but it worked. Headed down to the pokerroom at around 10:30 and sat at a 2/4 game again and just messed around for a whie there, not really acting up as I was still in sleep mode. Got to meet JaneG's husband as he sat down at my table and proceeded to win his first 3 or 4 hands. I really wasn't sure if I was going to play event 3 or not and really just made a last minute decision to go ahead and play it. I am glad that I did, as I ended up cashing for 4th in this one. Grabbed some food and then just kind of floated around a while and waited for a 2/4 seat again. Played there until 6pm when we had our Pizza gathering in Matthews suite and got to see a bunch of the people jsut sitting around and eating and chatting. Was quite nice since I missed the meet and greet on Thursday. We then headed to our area for the main event. Again, I ended up getting shortstacked early when I got involved with Rocket again. I had QJs from fairly early position and it was limped to me and 3 or 4 others limped behind me. Rocket, in the SB, pops it up to i think 400 or so (blinds 25/50) and I being Mr. Loosey Goosey call w/ position. Flop comes out JJx. Rocket bets out and I just call trying to get some more money out of him on the turn and I very confident that I had the best hand at this point. I'm putting him on AK or a small to mid pair at this point. The turn was a T, and now I am feeling that I may not have the best hand as I seriuosly was thinking TT in his hand. He bets out about the exact amount that I would with a monster hand. I was seriously concerned, but I wasn't going to fold either. The river was a K and he leads out again. I just call and he shows me AQ for the rivered straight. Had it not been for the limit event, we never would have gotten to that point. Shortly after that Tanya raised 3x, I called with 99, 1 caller, and then Piemaster re-raised a fair amount. Tanya folded and it was decision time for me. I needed a double and said"All in" Pie instantly calls, which really bummed me. He flips over AK and it's off to the races. An A hits and MX is sent packing. I went and grabbed a bit to eat and then started playing 2/4 again. After a while (around 11pm or so) I was talking with Primitive about how well he was doing at the 10/20 game and said I wished I had the cash to be able to play it. He then looks at me and says" I'll back you 50% on an initial buyin for a 50% split" I sat and thought for a minute and decided to go ahead and take $250 of my own money and put myself to the test a bit. The highest I had ever played is 5/10 and that was for a short period of time, so this was a bit of a large jump for me. Prim hands me $250 and I go and buy a rack of red chips ($500) It took a while to get a seat, but finally sat down at a table with Bugs, but thankfully he was 3 seats to my left. We stayed out of each others way pretty well and think it was more coincidence than anything else as I was not really getting any cards. A little bit later, Sandstorm sat down and Bugs decided that 3 ITH'ers were too much for one table, so he left. It took me a bit to get used to the size of the pots as the average pot was probably a good $200 or so. There were routinely 5-6 people preflop , but I will say that it thinned out a lot on the flop. The table had a perfect mix and was just an absolute gold mine. There were 2 complete weak tight players that would raise normal hands then ck/fold if they missed, 4 passive calling stations, 1 rich calling stations ( to my immediate right) that would play any 2 cards for up to 3 raises, and then 2 other solid players. Every once in a while, Primitive would stand up and give me a thumgs up/thumbs down checking on how things were going. For a while, I floated up and down about 5bb's. Then things started to click and I went on a totally unbelievable run. I don't think I was getting a better than average run of starting hands, but my good hands were holding up. After a while, I started feeling very comfortable with the table and myself (more importantly) and was beginning to loosen up my game a little bit when I had position. One such hand was UTG limped, next to act raised who was a bit loose with his raising, but nothingg horrible. There were then 2 cold callers and I had KJo on the button. I was up a fair amount at this point and had I not beeon on the button woudl have folded, but decided the position would make up for the hands weakness. Folded back to UTG who called. So we have 6 players for 2 bets each. Flop comes T97 and I flop a double bellied gutshot w/ 2 overs. Checks to the raiser who bets, 2 callers and then I call getting 15/1, utg folds. Turn is a Q, bingo! Raiser bets again, folds to me, I raise, call. River blank, ck/call. Ship it! After quite a while, I was beginning to form a fairly nice sized pyramid stack of red chips. Decided to snap a picture with my phone as I had never had this much sitting in front of me for a poker game.
I added a bit more to this after the pic was taken, but ended up cashout out about 6 hours of play for just under 50bb's.
As I was cashing out, Osmosis appeared and stated he had just finished the midnight tournament (5am now) and Ammbo was chip leader with 5 left. Went to rail him a bit and when they were 4 handed, they decided to chop giving Ammbo an extra $500 for being the chip leader, so he walked with $3k for that. Had a few celebratory drinks at 6am and then crashed for a few hours. Woke up Sunday, met up with Ammbo, Pie, Steve, Tom, Christine (Ammbo's victim) and Bugs for breakfast before heading home.
I had an absolutely wonderful time and look forward to meeting up with everyone again! |
