*************************************************************************************************************************************************************
***Updated 3/12/08: All Shares SOLD OUT! But plenty of time left to get in your wager(s) on ptBB/100 winrate!!! Deadline for this is Midnight EST, Saturday, 3/15***
*************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Mods, please free to PM me if you have a problem/question about this thread...I think that it's in line with previous "quest" threads, but I'm not 100% sure...

Background:

I’ve switched to playing primarily cash games over the past 4 months (NL 6-max and full-ring, to be exact). You may have noticed that most of my posting has shifted to the NL Hold’em forum. You also may have noticed my initial 11K hands at 25NL 6-max post here:

http://www.internettexasholdem.com/phpbb2/11k-hands-25nl-6-max-comments-critiques-welcome-vt56731.html?highlight=

[edit] I’ve also logged about 42K hands at Bodog 25NL and 50NL, where I’ve run at about 5.7 ptBB/100. Here's some pretty graphs:

So, I’m pretty darn confident that I’m a winning player at NL Cash....

But, in the interest of full disclosure, I had a recent run of questionable play at Stars 25NL 6-max (tried ramping up my post-flop aggression, went a bit overboard); this was compounded by nasty-bad variance:

http://www.internettexasholdem.com/phpbb2/ive-already-accomplished-2-of-my-goals-for-2008-vt56998.html

This pretty much ruined my good winrate on Stars and sent me packing to 10NL to rebuild, since I won’t play at a level with less than 40 buyins. So far, I’ve logged about 2K hands so far, and things are going just fine:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On to the Proposed Quest:

Drawing inspiration from previous ITHers like MXRider, McClelands, Willem, et al., as well as the itch that impending March Madness brings to start betting on random things, and finally…a desire for giving back to the ITH community / Columbianitos, I’ve decided to propose a quest of sorts:

Part 1:

I will offer shares for sale ($5 minimum purchase, = 1 share) to stake my play for a total of 20K hands at 10NL 6-max on Stars. I propose to do the following:

Strategy “A” (Full-Stacked): I will play 10K hands full-stacked, with typical full-stacked strategy, shooting for typical 6-max stats of about ~18-25% VP$IP and about 15-20% PFR.

Strategy “B” (Short/Mid Stacked): I will play 10K hands short/mid-stacked, following basic “SPR” strategies proposed in the recent Professional NLHE book.

Essentially, I will be playing a bit tighter, as with the shorter stack, I’ll be hitting my target SPR for good TPTK-type hands and will be willing to commit my stack when I hit. I also will be doing minimal set-mining and a bit less PFR’ing in earlier/later position with marginal hands. My guess is that I’ll be hitting about 15/12 VP$IP/PFR stats, with a pretty high post-flop aggression factor.

Staking Proposal:

I’ll be asking for a total of $300 of total backing…this represents 20 full $10 buyins and 20 mid-stacked ($5) buyins. Please post your staking amount in this thread; you can transfer the stake amount to high_rustler (Vernon) on Stars. I'll keep track of all the stakes here.

Money distribution:

At the end of the 20K hands, if I show a profit, I will return all stakes back, then split up the profits as 40% to me, 40% to stakees (distributed based on your % of the total shares sold), and 20% to the Columbianitos. If I lose money, I will distribute the remaining money to shareholders based on % of total shares owned.

Part 2:

Here’s the betting part (inspired by Willem)!!!

You can wager $5 on what my ptBB/100 win rate will be for “Strategy A”, “Strategy B”, or for both strategies (so, $5 max into each pool). Post your guess (to the hundredth of a ptBB/100), and be sure to indicate which wagering pool(s) you want your money to go into. Just like the staking, you ship your bet amounts to high_rustler (Vernon) on Stars…I’ll keep track of everything in this post.

If you are looking for a starting point for your wagers, note that decent "winning" players at microstakes NL 6-max usually have ptBB/100 winrates somewhere around 3-6 ptBB/100; people that crush it can do it to the tune of 10-15 ptBB/100 over significant sample sizes.

Payout for wagering pools: The person closest to the actual winrate (I’m thinking positively!!!) gets 50% of the prizepool for whatever Strategy pool that they bet in. The rest goes to the Colombianitos.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Pertinent Info:

Because there may be some players that actually pay attention to more than just their cards at 10NL 6-max, I will alternate play in my sessions (e.g., play ~2K hands full stacked, then play ~2K hands mid/short-stacked) to randomize player reads.

I will be playing between 4-8 tables at a time, with a HUD. I do this regularly and am quite comfortable keeping up with the action on this many tables.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Let the games begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This type of post is exactly the point of this forum. Good luck. If I had any money online, I'd participate.

I think you need to have a fixed wager amount here. Suppose someone wagers $10 on a certain winrate and I wager $2 on another winrate. I now have 50% chance to win $6 for an investment of $2. Not really fair I think.

I'll also take 5 shares. I'll ship the money in the next few days. (No funds on Stars).

Thanks, Willem...forgot that important detail! I've changed the first post to reflect a $5 standard wager per person. I reserved 5 shares for you. Thanks!!!!

OK, money send. I'll also make a wager of both winning rates but I'd like to wait and see what others do since I have no idea whatsoever what would be a reasonable winning rate.

Depends...but usually, If I play a 4-8 table session, I'm good for about 2-3 hrs before I need to take a break. So that ends up being about 1-2K hands or so....
