Is it just me or does this new VIP program make it much more difficult to clear bonuses at the 50 NL level. I have been playing my usual amount of tables and haven't even cleared a $5 increment yet when I probably would have cleared two increments by now under the old system.

Has anyone looked into this more deeply?

Like most Absolute promotions, this is designed to be as restrictive/hurtful as possible to as many players as possible. It's similar to Ultimate Bet's new system, except this one doesn't give NL players a boost over Limit players. It treats NL50 the same as .25/.5 limit!

Another fun thing to note, previously 50,000 ARPs could convert to $500. Now 50,000 points converts to $350 and you have to be a Diamond Elite player to get there. So points are worth considerably less and are considerably harder to get. Amazing how everything can get worse all at once. I didn't think they could do worse than Ultimate Bet's system. I was wrong.

It seems that many online poker rooms are currently changing their system. Hope it doesn't get worse at all of them.

Even though bonus may be clearing slower, I suspect that the yearly bonus expectation is higher on AP and UB than on FTP or particularly Stars. They just offer bonuses much more often. Therefore labeling it restrictive/hurtful is relative only to AP and UB in the past and not to competing sites. In those terms it has to be considered mildly useful and helpful.

Stars is a fine site, but AP and UB have a lot going for them at low to medium limits.

The bonus on AP clears SO slowly though and is on contributed rakeback, that you might actually be getting a better deal on Full Tilt or Cake with no bonuses whatsoever and dealt rakeback. Everyone truly interested about this should definitely do the math themselves.

If you get 1 million points, you can see your opponent's hole cards!

I finally decided to withdraw all my money from UB. I've still got just under half of my bonus to clear (about $500) but I can't stomach what's been going on there anymore. After listening to this week's (episode 32) 2+2 Pokercast it seems as if the cheating is more widespread than it was on AP. If I hear they've cleaned up their act I may go back as I'll miss the rakeback.
