Hi all, I was looking for a good hold em site to share stories and read up on strategy. This is the one I chose. Looks great and can't wait to explore the site.

I'm actually here because I had 2 bad beats in 2 different tournaments today with the exact same hand: pocket Kings. Both times I raised 3-5x's BB preflop, was forced all in by the big donkey stack preflop, and was beat on a straight that filled his rags.

I consistently place in the top 1-5% in freerolls. Are these jsut a couple bad beats or should I be throwing kings away? Even when I KNOW I have the strongest hand?

Welcome to ITH! I think you know the answer to the Kings question already.

At first you asked if you should get all-in pre-flop with KK when bozos hit their straight with rags. Of course you should. You can't fold KK pre-flop except in pretty extraordinary circumstances. As a rule, I'd be willing to get KK all-in pre-flop all day long, especially in a freeroll.

When someone shoves on the flop over a continuation bet, that is a whole 'nother question. However, in your example where the flop was 3/6/7 and someone was holding Q5 chasing a gutshot; I'd be happy to make that bet all day long.

You were racking up the Sklansky dollars big time. If the fish never sucked out then they would quit playing. That's the beauty of poker. I can't beat Tiger Woods in golf, but I've got a shot against Hellmuth.
