Hey all saw this on another forum and no post here so thought i would pass it on. It looks like things are actually starting to look up a bit. I especially like the article about the charges against the netteller guys being dropped.

A lot of good news lately.

Texas is also considering labeling Texas Holdem a "skill" game which could also have national implications if passed with that kind of language.

The really good news is that the industry is not lying down and there seems to be enough legislators to keep this injustice out there so that people keep talking about it.

This would be a huge voctory for poker. But it may have a lot of negativity too. If holdem gets labeled as a game of skill then that means it's not gambling.. that means every bar and hotel ECT can open up a card room..

That's great cause I'd love to see it.. but do you think this could have a negative kickback??

P.S hopefully canada will call it a skill too.

That's great news, but I'm still not very optimistic.

I don't think many politicians are going to see any upside in doing anything for the benefit of gamblers.

I'm cancelling my pending check cashout in Neteller (only $70) and keeping my fingers crossed.

I went back and watched the Barney Frank 4 minute speech at Bill's Blog [at least I think that was where I found it].

He started comparing online gambling with morality. He compared it to drinking and credit cards.

On the morality side he stated that a certain percentage of the population view drinking as immoral. He stated that people who cannot control their spending fiscally while using credit cards could be considered immoral. Yet, he stated, we repealed the Volstead Act and he doesn't see any legislation on the horizon with credit cards being illegalized.

On the fiscal ramifications he said that Americans are paying for the effects of alcoholism and that people are abusing credit cards, especially in college, to a much greater sum than gambling can ever be abused.

He also stated the earnest fact that if online gambling is so immoral, why are we pointing the hard-case gamblers towards online horseracing and lotteries?

But one of his best arguments was the notion that online gambling was a drain on the GDP. He stated the case for alcohol and credit cards well. I think, however, that he fell a bit short. Had it been me, I could have made a case for allowing domestic online sites that could help the GDP.

But back to morality. Is poker any less immoral than porn or alcohol? I don't care for non-Olympic hockey. Can I get it outlawed? I mean all those fights. Immoral! I wouldn't deign to tell people what they can or cannot do despite my opinions on the morality of their actions. I don't like flag-burning. But as a freedom of speech issue, burn a flag. As long as you paid for it, I don't care. If you put your hand on MY flag in front of MY house, you're going to pull back a bloody stump.

Evelyn Beatrice Hall writing under the pseudonym of Stephen G Tallentyre in The Friends of Voltaire (1906), said it best:

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
