Nice lil way to reduce variance...kinda need actually, especially if they have turbos. At the end of the day though, you'd have to choose between 4-tabling STTs or doing one of these.

I was wondering if PA HUD will work on these? I am guessing it might be a config issue for me?

It will definately attract players who can't 4 table properly, so should be good for those who can. Alas I'm a member of the former group so won't be playing any of them seriously. I'll probably try the $1 ones for the hell of it.

Can someone please summarize the advantages/disadvantages with these? So far to me it seems a great solution to variance, right? I can't see a real disadvantage unless you're someone who multi tables a lot. If you're like me and enjoy playing 2 SNG's at a time max, or MAYBE 3, then you can play a couple Matrix's and a MTT and can avoid the variance on the SNG's. I could be mistaken though, the pay out structure is a bit strange.

Let me know if someone has noticed some signficant positives or negatives to these tournaments. So far I'm a big fan, but it seems EXTREMELY difficult to get a 4x buy in cash from them. Maybe that's the biggest problem over all, as it appears not overly difficult to bust in all 4 tables and get 0$ from the tournament.

Never played one of these, but I'd say the payout structure effectively dilutes the prize pool. More people get paid (maybe five or six) but they get less.
If you think you have a skill edge this is to your disadvantage, although it does reduce variance.

Compare with a double-or-nothing: very low variance but the upside potential is pretty small: only 2x. Also I'm not a fan of knock-out points.

Can someone post the actual payout structure?

The advantage of these over other SnGs is the knock-out points. You could conceivably win the knockout prize pool without winning a single SnG by going deep in all 4 of them.

2 points for each KO, 1 point for each player you survive, and a 2 point bonus for getting 1st place.

I'm thinking now that this would be a gentle way to introduce yourself to a higher buy in level, but yes, if you play better than your competitors playing the standard way would probably be advantageous.

FWIW, the reports I'm seeing and my personal experience at the $104s makes it look as though the DoNs are both lower variance and better for your ROI. The play, at least currently, is really that bad (plus the much lower rake is a big factor). Given that DoN's are quicker, your hourly rate goes up as well.

Tried one of these for the first time last night ($2.25). Finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th, for 2nd overall in the matrix race. ROI was just about 100%. I just can't figure out whether I'm better off playing 4 separate $2.25's, or just playing a $10 matrix. Probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference. That said, it is fun playing 4 tables against the same competition.

I love the matrix tournaments. I have been playing them exclusively the last few weeks and have doubled my meager holdings at FT (from ~75 to ~150) playing anything from $10 on down.

One of the benefits is that you can get a lot of hands logged against the same opponents in a short period of time, making it easier to get reads on them.
