I've signed Jeff Hwang, author of Pot-Limit Omaha Poker, to a 2-book deal. The first will be released in 1st half of 2009 and the 2nd in the 2nd half of 2009. The books will focus on advanced strategies and short-handed play. I'm very happy to have been able to add Jeff to the growing number of authors publishing with Dimat. Most consider Jeff's first book to be the definitive book on Pot-Limit Omaha and I'm sure his next books will be take Omaha to the next level.

So for all of those Hold'em players looking to try something new, there should be some great material out next year on pot-limit Omaha.

Great opportunity to promote discussion of Omaha on the board. Interested in a second Omaha week, or an Omaha Hi-Lo week? I like the idea of a sit'n'go where hand records are made available to stimulate discussion afterward.

Congratulations, the first book has generated many positive comments.

Clabbers, I thought you might like this Smile. I'm quite busy right now but will definitely be playing some Omaha as I start to work on these books. I'll also put some work into adding some content for the website when we get closer to publication date to promote more Omaha discussion on the boards.

Great news!

With Hwang's book, Omaha has become my cash game of choice the past few weeks.

Not knowing a thing about PLO, would his first book be good for beginners?

Hwang's PLO book is awesome. It was the first book I've ever read that sounded like the strategy I try to play, and of course I learned a lot on top of that.

No insult intended to Matthew/Dimat, but I'm surprised he did not sign with 2+2. In the thread there regarding Hwang's PLO book, Mason and Jeff exchanged some messages, and they mentioned PMing each other. Of course, Mason's superior attitude (unwarranted) and abrasive manner may have turned him off. I'm glad to see Mason get turned down in favor of a smaller publisher, if that is in fact what happened.

Jeff will be a welcome addition to the forum if he elects to participate. His non-poker writing on finances for the Motley Fool suggests he is well-rounded outside poker as well.

If you know the basics of Omaha rules and pot limit betting structures you can do quite well with his book. I don't think it's for the rank beginner, but anyone with good holdem knowledge and understanding of simple Omaha stuff (two card rule, reading the board) can do quite well.

Personally, I would have preferred the LO8 and PLO8 sections be left out of Hwang's book. O8 really is a different game in many ways. The hand examples section could have been greatly expanded to fill up the book. (Of course, maybe that's the plan)

That's not to say I don't think there is a (niche) market for a good LO8/PLO8 book. Cappelletti's is only good, Warren's is bad, and Cloutier/McEvoy's sucks eggs.

I have read the entire 2plus2 thread covering Jeff's book and I am NOT surprised that he did not sign with 2plus2.

I am very happy that Jeff went with DIMAT and I think it was a smart decision. Now if DIMAT can just sign Miller, Mehta, and Flynn.

Very much agreed. Hwang would have had to limit his sharing of knowledge on the internet, and did not wish to do so. The dialog revealed Mason's greed and arrogance, and also the less attractive aspects of his personality.

In short, score one for the good guys.

Had Jeff signed with 2plus2, he would have had to watch what he said not only on the Internet, he would have had to curtail what he said in his column in Card Player magazine.

In a short while, I am going to the books section here on ITH to bump the thread on Jeff's current book. If there is no thread, I am going to start one. With the news of Jeff's signing, I have a feeling that the very popular 2plus2 thread is not long for this world and will be closed at Mason's request.

Prove me wrong, Mason. Keep that thread open.

As a good friend of Jeff's and someone who was lucky enough to travel and play cards with him while the first book was being written I am very excited to see that he has found a welcoming home for his next books.

And for any interested, all you have to do is drop say $3 -400 via bad laydown and you too can be included in one of his books Rolling Eyes
