It is time for another cover design contest. We need a cover design for the hands book by Pearljammer, Rizen, and Apestyles. This book consists of 195 hands, analyzed in detail from preflop to river.

We still do not have a title, so for now use Tournament Hands Book Volume 1.
Use a subtitle: One Kick Ass Hands Analysis Book

The authors are:

Eric “Rizen” Lynch
Jon “Pearljammer” Turner
Jon “Apestyles” Van Fleet

Foreward by Matthew Hilger

Include somewhere on cover:

Strategies and concepts covering:
- Deep Stack play
- Building a big stack
- Short-stack strategies
- Bubble play
- Stealing Blinds
- Continuation Bets
- Playing Draws

Designs should be submitted before May 2nd. The winning design will receive a $300 stake in my WSOP tournaments this year or $300 cash and two free copies of the book. We reserve the right to not select a design. Note that the original design may be modified and adjusted for printing, including the design of a backcover by Dimat Enterprises, Inc. This design may also be used for additional Volumes in the series. This contest is open to both ITH Members and non-Members, although you will need to post your design in this thread.

Matthew

My initial thoughts would be to use two human hands holding a bunch of different poker holecards, but I'm sure you guys could have thought of that yourselves. I'll have a think and put together a design tonight if I get a chance.

Edit: Ohhhh I got an idea.

I think some variation of this would be cool. I'm on a Mac so I don't have any photo editing software to jazz this up, but I thought I'd at least post the idea. If someone wants to take this into Photoshop and clean it up, add titles etc then feel free. I think a digital version with the images of the cards fully covering the hands would look good though.

And yes, that is chalk and biro you see.

How about an Ape jamming on a guitar in front of the "rizen" sun?

Seriously though, please do NOT put a table of contents on the front cover. Those types of covers turn me off.

Just to get things going Wink

The general idea is that you look through a "Window" in the book at a hand. Probably works better with a photo of the hand (and possibly of the window) than a crappy illustration. That stuff is easy to fix though.

Cool 'window' idea prim. How about a real photo of a table with stacks and a hand holding the cards so you feel as if you're looking over the players shoulder and seeing his cards, the board and the various stack sizes?

Simple:

Any image could be used, as long as it is clean, tightly cropped and not too cluttered ... but I prefer one without any images. Just a clean, glossy-white, simple front where the typography takes over. Either way, I think white would stand out in a shelf full of poker greenery.

-----------------

Really simple:

Theme could easily continue for further editions .. just a change of highlight colors. Simple, distinct style would be easily remembered.

The cover is gonna be awesome.

I have to laugh because when I saw the second suggestion I thought it was taz's instead of nut's.

Prim and Nut's are both really really good.

I do like perfer Nut's with the picture(vs no pic) and prim's would be better with a photo. IMHO.

GOOD JOB GUYS!

Nice one nut. My two cents.

I like the "kick ass" comment. It is an attention getter and you are dealing with mostly younger people, at least younger than 40, who will be your target. That's just speculation on my part however...is this true? I'm mean all the authors are under 30.

I like the chip concept as opposed to the card concept. Many books have cards on the cover...this may stand out more. Plus it relates more to live games as opposed to online. Online is huge sure, but in the USA it's the live that continues to explode.

I like nut's general format better but I think the main title should be on the top.

I like Prim's way of listing the authors, with their online nick as their "middle" name.

The kick ass was just made up until we determine a title, although I must say I actually kind of like it Smile

We definitely will be using Eric 'nickname" Lynch

Here is my first run at a cover. I'm sure you can figure out the theme to this cover - something a bit different. Hope you like it. -CD
