|
|
I won the main prize, a $5000 entry + 1000 for expenses to event 9 - $5000 NL Holdem at the WSOP. It was their 2-3 month long 'Freeway to Vegas' promotion. I booked my hotel and flight and got everything ready on my end, including sending in the registration form etc., but I kinda was getting worried because I had not received my entry confirmation from CnR.
Then today this:
| Quote: | We regret to inform you that CnR will be unable, at this time, to make a lump sum payment for the 10 WSOP seats that were won this year through the “CheckPoints to Millions” and “Freeway to Vegas” promotions on ChecknRaisePoker. However, we plan to make this up to you over the coming months. We will deposit into your player account 5% or more, as cash flow permits, of the value of your entry in monthly installments starting July 31st , 2006 until 110% of the cash equivalent is paid in full.
Unfortunately our cash flow did not allow us to set aside sufficient funds from the time that you won your seat in March. If you plan to attend the WSOP in any event, we wish you the best of luck and we are sure you will have a great time.
Please accept our sincere apologies for having to break this news to you just weeks prior to the event we promised you. Please do not hesitate to contact us by return email, if you have any questions or comments. If you would like to speak to us by phone, please suggest a convenient time and provide a phone number and we would be happy to call you and provide more details and answer any questions that you may have.
Best Regards,
XXXX and the ChecknRaise Team |
I was really looking forward to the tourney and don't think I can get a refund on my airfare and accomodations, so I'm really bummed. At least they are honouring the prize over the next year lol. I bet I don't ever see this prize. |

| Oh my God. That is absolutely horrendous. In my opinion, we should blacklist this site. I'm stunned by this. |

| They are talking about 10 5k seats, right? They are unable to meet a $50,000 debt? I'm pretty sure that is not a site I would feel safe keeping money at. |

| I think it was 3 - 10k seats, 2 - 5k seats and some 1-3k seats. As soon as any money comes in, I'll be pulling it out. |

I remember looking at that promotion and thinking it had some amazing overlay. I'm torn between wanting to call attention to them on 2+2 and wanting to keep it quiet so that you have some distant hope of ever getting your money.
Love your sig, by the way. |

They ran that series of amazing freerolls that you had to qualify for and if iirc I think you made a decent cash. I thought they would follow through, I did get the 1000 expense $ right away.
I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope. It may not help anything to make a huge publicity stink against them. Looks like they have enough problems. I'll post agin on July 31st with an update and see if they have deposited anything into my account. |

Wow. Not really much to say other than wow.
There is absolutely no way to 'make this up' to the players. |

| I'm still really steamed up over this. Apparently, they didn't set aside any money, since they don't intend to pay you anything of what they owe at all until after the WSOP is over. If they paid half now, I'd be more willing to believe that they intend to eventually make it up. I think you will never see this money. This is disgusting. |

I got the same email.
I'm out a $10,000 Main Event seat, and I really doubt I'll see any of their promised $500 payments. |

Another ITH member, Big Poppa also got the same email, and it was posted through Bullajami's Bonus forum.
This is extremely horrendous. We're sorry? You bilked all of these players out of promised tournament entries? Amazing.
Let's hope our politicians don't get a hold of this. |

| This is such brutal news. I feel sick for both of you. My confidence in the entire poker room network is totally shaken. Check n raise should and will be blacklisted. I hope they come to their senses and pony up a satisfying resolution. Doubt that will happen as they have already handled this in such a way that it casts serious doubt on their future viability. To send this in a form e-mail is shameful when a dozen or so phone calls could have been made in an attempt to save themselves this kind of publicity. |

| This makes me much more nervous about the smaller rooms. I'm going to stick to playing the big rooms from now on, I think. |

I'm not entirely surprised. I had some tangential connection with some people involved in that site, when it began. Unless I'm confusing sites, this one evolved from a smaller site I used to play at, and it was fairly poorly run.
It is one sad tale, though. |

Although you should do as you see fit, I'm not going to let an unscrupulous act by one dirtbag online poker site affect my selection of smaller sites in the future. We all know that this nefarious scenario is a possibility going in.
Please don't construe this as anything more than what it is...a possible cloud hanging above our collective heads. One of the reasons we can't really trust any of the sites. They are outside our jurisdiction, unregulated and unapproachable. Any one of them at any time can close it's doors, file bankruptcy and walk away with all the player's money. It's just a cold, hard fact.
Although I haven't been victimized by a poker site in this manner, I still am someone whose NETeller account was compromised to the tune of $1500. That soured me on NETeller. So I found FirePay. This limits my online access [I closed Littlewoods, TotalBet and UKBetting], because I cannot open accounts at some sites due to no FirePay option.
Although there are bigger, better, more stable sites out there, cutting off the smaller ones might limit the marketplace and then the large conglomerates would have less incentive to deal us decent bonuses.
All this being said, I'm a very cautious individual. I'm the one who misses the initial big bonuses because I want to see how they play out with their early membership.
I also think it isn't fair to Pokerroom and it's many skins for the pigheadedness of one poker bastard-child. Then again, I'll stick to Pokerroom and Holdem Poker for the time being.
Finally, I had wondered for a very long time why BW hadn't rated and evaluated CnR. Could Player's Edge be that much better? |
