Darn it.
1) I busted out early
2) I lost the first attempt at a trip report.
So this will be streamlined. I played against Ram Vaswani briefly. He came in late and sat at our table. After a couple of orbits another guy came in and said, "This guy is sitting at my table." He was right. Floor said, "Ram you're suppose to be at Table 20." Damn. I didn't even know what he looked like. Had I known it was he....
Ram beat me out of two pots.
First one. He raised I called with AK. Flop was three low cards. He bet I called. Turn was another low card. He checked the turn, I bet, he moved in. I folded.
The other I had 99. He raised MP, I called. Flop was J52 two hearts. Check, check, Turn was Th. He bet, I folded.
There was a young Swede in Seat 4. I was in Seat 9. He looked like the typical Scandinavian aggro. The first orbit I limp utg+1 with JJ. He raises, I call. Flop is a dream: AJx. I check raise him, he reluctantly calls, K on the turn (please kid have AK!), I bet the turn and he folds. Still nice. There was discussion about my hand. The concensus was that I held AJ. I finally admitted it.
30 minutes later I limp utg+1 with JJ. A pattern is developing. The Swede raises. I call. Flop is Kxx rainbow. I check, he bets, I min raise, he folds.
But I have not been so lucky otherwise. We are in Level 3, 100/200 and I have 1800 chips, down from the 3K starting stack. I muck KQs utg+1. One orbit later I am in the SB with 1575. The Swede raises. I look down and absolutely can't believe my good fortune. AA. Rocketman! I played 21 levels in the Seniors and only saw them once. Here we are only in Level 3...wonderful!
I push after appropriate thought. BB goes into the tank. Come on...waters fine. Maybe I can triple up. I need chips, the average is about 4500 right now. But he folds. Then the Swede goes into the tank. What is he thinking about? He must have not read Gus Hansen's book. He's calling 1025 to win 2325. Better than 2-1. To paraphrase Gus: "When a shortie pushes, you have a mandatory call gettting 2-1 unless you know you are dominated." Well I'm no nit let me assure you and he knows that. What is he thinking about? I thought he was a good player...maybe not.
Finally he calls and shows KQ. Love it. 7-1 favorite.
Flop is KQx. Hate it.
I can't catch up on the turn or river and it's busto for me.
Well it's the first bad beat of June at the Rio for me, and it came early. it could have been a lot worse.
Next up. 1500NL again on Monday. This will be the final one before the Main Event. For those who haven't heard I am playing the Main. I'm excited.

A couple more hands. This is typical of what happens early if you are lucky enough to fall into it.
Kid Swede raises from the CO and Clueless Button calls.
Flop is Td7dx. Kid Swede checks, Clueless bets, Kid Swede thinks and pushes. He has Clueless well covered but Clueless has enough chips to get away from this and still be in decent shape with an M=7 or so. Clueless thinks for a long time. Finally and painfully he calls.
Kid: Ad7c
Clueless 66
For Kid Swede to check that flop is a big ALERT!!! He wasn't even that strong but still played like he had a huge hand. He had a nice hand but he would never be weaker than he was and check.

I have Ah8h in the BB and MP raises. I call in the BB. This is a marginal call especially before the antes kick in. But the play is so poor early you want to get active before all the terrible players lose their chips. I think I was a bit too aggro in this tournament. I had been warped by the passive play in the Seniors.
Flop is KQx no hearts. I check, he checks. Turn is a blank putting two clubs on the board. I bet, he raises, I fold. He shows a King.
Not the worst, but I could have folded this preflop.

That happened to me a few times so now whenever I'm doing a really long post, I write it in notepad first and then paste it in.
Anyway, thanks for keeping us up to date with such great reports. I love reading 'em. |
