Check or bet this river?

CO is 27/22/2
BTN is 71/0/0.3

I think in hindsight this is a check on the river. With 2 players left to act should I have just checked this to see what they did? Check calling is obviously wrong if CO bets and BTN calls so I can make a relatively easy fold. But what if CO bets and BTN folds? Crying call? If it's HU against the BTN then it's a pretty standard value bet against a possible 5, but if CO checks and BTN bets what now?
