Hi everyone!
I'm a casual player who participates in friendly games of texas holdem about once a month. Recently, I folded a hand which I thought was a loss, which I now think may have been a certain win... I had 7clubs 4diamonds. the flop was a 7 and 2 other useless cards, the turn was useless, and the river was another 7... How do pairs and three of a kind work? Would I have had a pair and three of a kind? Thanks in advance! |

Your hand:
Flop:
No you have just one pair, a pair of sevens.
Turn:
Still only a pair of sevens.
River:
Now you have trips (three of a kind). In order for someone to have a better hand, he/she needs to have QQ, 22, 33, 72, 73, Q7 for a full house. Or another 7 for trips also but with a bigger kicker, like A7, 97.
You have a better hand than say AA, KK, Q3 or 23. |

So if the turn had been a I would have had a pretty decent hand with the three of a kind and the pair, right? |

3 of a kind and a pair is a full house.
The order of hold em hands is:
High Card
Pair
Two Pair
3 of a Kind
Straight
Flush
Full House
Four of a Kind
Straight Flush
Royal Flush |

Yes, but three of a kind together with a pair is called a full house. With a full house, you even have an even stronger hand than a strait and a flush. |

Hmm, I am starting to think this post is a level...if not, there should be a "basics of poker" site the OP should look at.
