|

The California Chapter of the PPA as well as other organizations here in California are working towards an intranet online poker platform. I like the idea, obviously as a Californian. Here is the link at PokerNews which sums it up best:

Any other states moving in this direction? |

| Yeah, sure. As soon as the no-cell-phones-whilst-driving law is repealed, or the no-smoking with a BOB (that's Baby on board, or child, in this case) law bites the dust, I'll bite. |

My guess is that like most cutting edge legal / political situations, the rest of the country will see how this plays out in California before taking any kind of action.
I think if the state finds a reasonable payback from this you'll see other states jump on board pretty quickly, especially if they are in budget crunches. I think some states will hold out for a long time, like Nevada and New Jersey, out of fear of cannabalizing their brick and mortal operations.
I am definitely paying attention to this and just hope that if it comes about but I just hope that we don't end up getting a poker room with outrageous fees or that they don't have good structures, etc. |

| They should just lift the ban, let the fish back online. |

I wish. I cannot even join ClubWPT, Spade Club, Club Bluff or any of the other sweepstakes based legal online sites due to my state.
Sorry for the late reply as I just saw this thread.
Any further word on if this measure is still alive in California? |

This isn't dead but it was pulled from from discussion and will be brought back to the table in 2009. There has been some preliminary work on revenue streams, etc and the writers also want to get thoughts, ideas, etc from the various casinos in California on the issue.
The budget debacle made this a backburner issue but I expect to start hearing more about it early next year. |
