Why are there no bluffing books? Bluffing is a very exciting part of the game and a big reason why people start playing; so why is the poker world so thin on bluffing books?

When I first got HOH1 I went straight looking for the bluffing bit. Surely this is the most important part of poker. (Harrington moved the bluffing bit to book two so I had to wait Sad ) Any book with the word "bluffing" on the front is bound to sell double any other book so why are authors not jumping at the opportunity.

Preferably you want a "B" initial person so it sounds good. "Barry on bluffing" sounds much better than "Phil on bluffing".

Suggestions...

Barry on bluffing
Bluffing; theory and practise
Theory of bluffing
ITHbluffing
Making the final table...by bluffing.
How I bluffed, bluffed and bluffed to a million dollars...and you can too.

People better start writing some bluffing books soon or I'm taking up bingo!

Emma on bluffing? hmmnn, interesting.

I think bluffing is covered in ever book. How could you write 200+ pages about bluffing?

If i remember rightly, HOH covers alot of semi-bluffing. I don't suppose you can write a book on just 'bluffing'.

Matt Lessinger has a book out called The Book of Bluffs. I think he was on Ask a Expert just a couple of months ago.

I'm on page 3 of my new book but I'm finding it tough to draw the cards. My drawing of a king looks a bit silly. I could just use a big K, but it's a picture card and you really want to see a picture. Maybe I could just use all the low cards for my examples then I just need to draw lots of diamonds and hearts and things with a number at the top. Yeh, I'll just do that for.

I'm sure someone could write several books about bluffing. Mortensen says that bluffing is what poker is all about and he's really good. 50% of the HOH books should be about bluffing.

Thx for the note about Lessingers book but since bluffing is such a big part of poker surely half of all poker books should be about bluffing.

Did you here about the guy that showed up,(back in the day when they played in backrooms) at a large poker game. He had a big book with him. Somehere early in the evening he accidentally dropped it, and quickly picked it up again, but everyone saw that the title was "How to win at Poker by Bluffing".

They kept calling him down all night long and he kept showing them the nuts. At the end of the night when he left, with a very healthy profit, he forgot to take the book with him.

The other players opened up the book and found that all the pages were blank, except for the first one. It had one word on it.

DON'T

The bottom line is that bluffing is over-rated, especially by beginners. It is potentially an exciting part of the game and you should be aware of the nuances, but it is not even close to being the most important part of the game.

Poker is a game of patience. Bluffing too often works against that. It is fun to win pots with total bluffs, and money won via a good bluff is twice as sweet, but it's very easy to become overly enamored of bluffing - which will quickly lead to you losing your roll.

But, if you really want to bluff here it is in a nutshell:

The Wascally Wabbit's Guide to Bluffing

1) Do not bluff into multiway pots. Bluffing 2 people is 3 times harder than bluffing 1. Bluffing 3 people is 7 times harder than bluffing 1.

2) If a scare card comes that can allow you to (realistically) represent a hand stronger than your opponents probable hand then bluff - otherwise don't.

3) Never bluff a calling station - good players tend to be easier to bluff than bad players since good players are capable of laying down a hand, but they're also more likely to have a real hand so it's a two-edged sword.

The End.

Methinks Emma is being sarcastic.

David Apostolico has a Pocket Idiot Guide on this subject. It is called Poker Bets & Bluffs. It came out in August (according to Amazon).

I would say that most poker books cover bluffing. They have to as it is part of the game. Some of them do it better than others.

Not sure why there are not more that make bluffing the main thrust of the book, though.
