Black Hawk, CO: Gilpin Poker room - Sat. 3PM $150 buy-in, 20 min rounds, blinds started at 25-50

I placed second, and took home $1700! Shocked Woot!

I've been playing an aggressive, position-focused raising style lately, and have been very happy with it. It's a great time to take down decent pots with absolute trash. This style does two things well: it keeps your stack healthy while the cards aren't coming, and the few times I show down, I have good to great hands, and others remember that.

I was an "average" chip stack for the first 2 hours or so, then doubled up when my miracle AA was called by AK. After that, I became more aggressive, raising for 5xBB to 7xBB while everyone else was clutching their chips, eying the final table and the money.

At one point, I held 2/3 of all the chips, when we began discussing a deal Each of the remaining players agreed to take $1000, and the top two would split the remainder 60-40. The older guy who I faced in the heads-up had played very, very few hands, so was an enigma. I had 3x the chips he did, but two hands in a row, he had a straight by the turn, and went all-in. Both times I had 2 pair, grr.

All in all, good times!

Way to go. I played there a few years ago. It was a $50 tourney and I busted with KK on about the 10th hand.
