Cardplayer has an article in the latest issue about a bill which would allow each casino in Florida to hold a major poker tournament twice a year. This would be great, great news for me as Florida is a much better trip than going out west. Might pass in May.

Much discussion about this in another forum. It probably isn't going to happen for several reasons, not the least of which Orlando and Miami tourism officials are strongly opposed to expanding gambling in any way. They staunchly do not want Florida to become a gambling destination.
The bill requires that the tournaments be televised, like the issue could be forced with the WPT or something. But how are they going to draw people out here with side games with $2 maximum bets?
And even if they did, where would these people stay? This bill only covered the parimutuels, none of which have hotels close to them other than a bunch of roadside mom-and-pops that you can rent by the hour.
