I'm probably being too general but what kind of situations could we be justified in betting into the PFR on the flop? I understand the concept of the probe bet that let's us find out where we stand with a marginal hand relatively cheaply but are there any other situations where we should just bet out or is checking OOP standard against a PFR?

Would this also be the same 3 handed?

There are a lot of factors here so it might be best to generalize your question to a specific type of situation.

For instance, where is the preflop raise coming from? Early? Late?

Is this a raise after a limp? Are we defending in one of the blinds?

What's the strength of your hand? Does it rate to be best in the spot you are in? Is it a strong but disguised hand? Is it a draw?

If I'm playing two rags and hit second pair on an all rag board, I'm generally betting half pot. I'm always surprised how often that takes it down. If there's resistance I'm only putting more in if I hit my 5 outs to improve. Half pot is often what I would bet with a set or two pair also.

A little more speculative, but sometimes I'll bet out that half pot with a small pocket pair on a paired board. The paired board only hits your opponent 2/3 as often as an unpaired board. You're trying to push out or extract extra taxes on big unpaired cards.

Okay, I'm still in limit mode but with your weaker hands would there not be more value in inducing bluffs on the flop by checking to the PFR and letting him continuation bet with his full range?
