I have always been one to try to minimize the rake I pay. So, I have always avoided bad beat jackpot tables because of the added rake.

Recently I read something else that got me thinking - are there worse players that make up for the extra rake? Do you get more players that are willing to call 3 bets pre-flop with a 54s because they have a shot at the jackpot? Is it enough to compensate for the extra rake?

Uh...you aren't supposed to call 3 bets with 54s?!

No way! Cap if playing limit or open shove if at a no-limit table. Easy game...

IMO, the tables are so much looser, that the added rake does get alleviated by the players. Just taking a cursory look at Carbon Poker, they have four $0.25/$0.50 FR LHE non-badbeat tables going and average Plrs/Flop is running at 35%

They have a single $1/$2 FR LHE Badbeat table running and it's running at 44%.

Although the added rake can drag down your profit, I think you get more chance to profit against very poor players looking for the big score.Four things I consider:

1. Is it the only game at my limits on the site? If so, do I really need to be here?
2. Increased poor players means increased rake which in turn means better bonus clearance.
3. If I see a gap of 8-10% in table VP$IP, I'll gravitate to the badbeat table because the players there are horrible.
4. How big is the jackpot and what are the conditions? The prizepool has to have a place where it is +EV. Also on some sites, just playing at the limit where it is hit on another table will give each player at that limit a certain amount of money.
