I was distracted at the table and don't really have a good read on the opponent. I only min-raised preflop, I would charge more next time.
(I actually got to the river and can provide what the villain had and if anyone includes his holding in your ranges I will be VERY impressed) |

Well I wouldn't fold. But here's the problem. Your preflop reraise is in effect saying: I have a big pair, please call 85c to try and take my entire stack. Guess what percentage of my button raising range I'd be calling you with? Yeah all of it. And it wouldn't be a mistake.
Give your opponent an opportunity to make a mistake. Reraise to $3 at least preflop. If he folds, fine. You win his preflop raise and the blinds uncontested and make him steal a bit less too. Good result. If he calls then chances are he made a mistake. Even better.
Oh and don't play distracted. It costs you money. |

I don't see much point in calling and leaving only a little on the river which will prolly get put in anyways, so I'm pushing the turn.

Villain had 92o?
I usually like to bet a bit bigger on the flop in these situations. Overcards will fold either way and it puts a tough decision to a middle pair.
I'm still not going to critisize the min-raise on the flop; there might be something in that.

Preflop I know I need to make them pay more. It is just another reminder, but I was thinking, in blind steal position lets sweeten the pot and not loose our guy.
Turns out he had (63o) and he did indeed make the call (and so did the BB) to try and stack me.
On the turn, there were so many hands in his range that I beat and a few of those he may thought would beat me that I went for it. He had a OESD on the flop and called 3.50 to see the next card.
I think he only had 1 card to hit his 8 outs because I don't see him calling another 8.30$ to see the river. But I guess with 1 card to hit his 8 outs for the pot+my stack it would probably make it a +EV ++Variance call. I
just could not see how that could have helped him. I thought A5s, 56, 67, 88+. Yeah there were the trips possibilities there that I could have already been behind.
Now is there anything else I can learn from this hand?
Lets say, I did actually raise to $3 and only the Button Calls. Making it 6$ on the flop.
Would you still play it the same way (open bet flop, open turn for the same %pot bet)? Or would check the turn? |
