|

I just heard that you can use a prepaid credit card -- like the kind you buy at Target -- and deposit directly to stars. Apparently there are some small fees involved, but it seems like a good deal otherwise.
Is there a catch to this? Why haven't I heard about more people doing it?
As long as I can deposit this way and withdraw by getting a regular check in the mail, I'm thinking that might be all I need. |

And this seems to be a reloadable prepaid VISA card.
Aren't we now approaching a Neteller-like system ...
load the card from your bank ... use the card to deposit at stars ... reload it from your bank
I guess the difference is that you probably can't accept cashouts from stars to the card.
What am I missing here? |

A cut and paste of my original post a few days ago. From the Ewallet thread in bonus chasing. Oh, and the only gift cards Target carries are for--Target. No cards for other merchants there, at least at my local store.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Debit gift cards have been added to Bull's Cashiering spreadsheet.
Some things to keep in mind:
Not all prepaid gift cards work. The so-called Vanilla and Green Dot do not. The two that appear to work are Gift2Go and giftcards (with an "s", not giftcard, singular.)
Gift2Go can be purchased at most Walgreens, where the biggest denomination available is $100. Larger denominations are available on line and the card mailed to you. The card will not say Gift2Go on it---the key is it will say can be used worldwide and online. If it just for domestic use, it will not work. Here is a link to a 2+2 thread where a poster scanned a photo of the card he bought:
Thread Link
(I believe this is just one of several designs, having checked at the local Walgreens. But it gives you an idea of what to look for--just make sure it says accepted worldwide and online.)
Moving on to www.giftcards.com. They are ordered online, and you can get a physical or virtual card. Another thread with some info:
Thread Link
If you use the Gift2Go at Bodog-----save the card! When you eventually request a cashout, you will be asked to fax them a copy of the card and photo ID. (Actually, it is probably a good idea to save the card, regardless where you use it. Just in case.)
The spreadsheet indicates acceptance at FT, Stars, UB and Bodog. Those are confirmed usages at 2+2. These should work at any site that accepts Visa credit cards. Even though it is a prepaid debit, you will deposit using the credit card option.
You cannot cashout to these cards. You will have to request a check from the site.
They cannot be reloaded.
There evidently were some $100 Gift2Gos available that offered a rebate of the $5.95 fee (guessing you mailed in copy of your receipt.) Don't know if any are still available.
$5.95-$6.95 appears to be the standard fee on these. They are not viable for higher stakes players needing to move larger sums of money. They are a decent option for smaller stakes players who are willing to cashout via check when the time comes (or who plan to leave the money on the site and let their bankroll build.) The Gift2Go in particular is a very good option for the "recreational" player looking to get a little money on line quickly come payday. Feel free to recommend these to any player who you feel falls in the "recreational" ie, "fish" (apologies to Pilchard) category.
For smaller stakes players wanting to get some money online, and not wanting to get involved with an Ewallet (at least til the dust settles a bit), these are definitely worth a look.
Edit for PS: In my snooping around at a few Walgreens these past few days (it's easy--there are a couple near where I work and a couple near home) I have noticed a rather scanty supply of the $100's. This may well indicate a bit of a run on the cards by local online players. This is a college town, and suspect this may well be how the kids are funding accounts. The Walgreens located halfway between three different campuses (state uni, private uni, and a juco) was completely out of the $100's a week after Neteller shut down.
Another PS : Just found a link where the poster gives a pretty good "how to" for using the online Giftcards option:

Rocket, have you considered giving Bodog CS a call to see what they suggest?
If memory serves from reading past posts, you've played there a fair amount at decent stakes, and cashed out a tidy sum via Western Union. There might be options/suggestions they would offer you (or any player in a similar situation) that they would not post on their website.
The sites want you to deposit, and it's in their best interest to help players do it quickly (and as cheaply) as possible. If you have an established playing history at decent stakes at a particular site, certainly can't hurt to make a call/send an email to see what they can do for you.
Plus, talking to Bodog CS is a pretty painless experience. Actually, about the nicest, most pleasant phone CS I've talked to in a long time. |

Post if you find out anything from bodog Rocket (also don't forget to ask about cashouts) |

| Stars also has a new affiliated debit card with which you can deposit/withdraw (apparently quite similar to the Neteller or epassporte cards). I've got one on the way now, we'll see when it gets here. |

My deposit via Western Union went smoothly. Funds were available about an hour after making the transaction. Bodog covered Western Union's fee.
You do need to call customer service to initiate. As stated they were very cordial. |

Hi, all.
It is a Visa debit card and is issued by PayTruCard, located in Antigua. To sign up, you will be required to give your Social Security number, so that PayTru is in compliance with the Patriot Act from what I have read. You will also get a physical debit card in the mail in 10-14 business days.
Fees to load the Visa debit card are 4% of the amount plus $0.50. If you load the card for $500, PayTru takes out $20.50. PayTru also charges a $2.95 monthly service charge, but only if you carry a balance.
When you send money from Stars back to your PayTru Visa debit card, there is another 4% +$0.50 fee, but Stars picks up this charge. You can then use your PauTru card at an ATM with a maximum $500 daily withdrawal and each ATM withdrawal charges a fee of $2.50. You can also use the PayTru card to buy good and services with each purchase subject to a $1 fee. |

Stars now offers MoneyGram, which is a service similar to Western Union but with much smaller fees (I think $9). There are a lot of places to send from (small convenience stores, most WalMarts).
Western Union or Moneygram are the answer for larger amounts, as the flat fees make the percentage hit smaller.
The Gift2Go Visa from Walgreens works OK. After having withdrawn most of my bankroll, I only left $300 or so online, but I refused to lower my stakes to reflect that. Normal variance left me short once, so I picked up a $100 walgreens card. The $5.95 fee is steep.
The Giftcards virutal card for a $2 fee up to $500 is reasonable.
If you're wanting to put in $1000 or more, definitely call customer service. They will find a way to help you fund your account. |

Visa Gift Card Update:
Wellllllllll, I don't know if something has changed, but I purchased an "all access" card to load up with from Safeway today and it didn't work all of a sudden. I had used this type before so I KNOW it worked before, now it's a no go. I guess VISA figured out what was happening and smoked it out? I have no clue, but it's just another pain in the ass for us that like to play.
The way I got around it though was to go to Epassporte and load up using the gift cards. The all access cards have a website you can go to, to see what action has been on your card. So when you go into Epassporte and want to add that CC as a funding option, they will put the pending charge on your account to verify the card, it's instantaneous and you can look at the all access site to see what the charge was. Then go verify the card and load up. It incurs even more fees I know, but I was stuck with the access card so that's the route I had to go.
Buyer be warned
