Just wondering if anyone had gotten it yet and how they like it. I ordered mine on Monday. I hope it's here by Saturday!

Anyone offer up a book review?

OK, either no one has ordered it or they're being stingy with the reviews Razz

3 copies have been sold so far - well ahead of the pace of ITH. Hopefully someone will come forward and share their likes and dislikes of the book. I would really like feedback and any typos that people might find as I want to correct them before the next print run.

Ordered it the day it was avaiable from the free book offer promotion.
I plan to read it and NLHTP together, and have a massive reading marathon the weekend I get them.

Ill keep an eye out for types and be sure to post my initial impression in this thread the first time I finish the book.

I really like the way Matthew's book is set up. I have just skimmed it so far...will read in detail this week when we are on our vacation. I have seen no typos...

Anyway I'll reserve additional comments until I finish reading....nice cover Angel-fish!!

First Chapter : How to Calculate Odds and Probabilites

Awesome..very basic and easy to read.

I love the way Matthew didn't ASSUME we remember all our old math classes.

You math wizards will "probably" find it too simple, but the bulk of america won't.

So far so good!!

Becky

AND a hand to ITH...I got the order super duper fast!!

I am hoping to get mine tomorrow or Wednesday.

ITH is, in my opinion., such a top notch place that when someone asks me how to play I point them to the book and website.

There is nothing better in my opinion.

I just got mine from the center of the gambling book universe today. Havent gotten very far, but it's reminding me of when I first started. Ahh nostalgia. Wish I had an autographed copy...

I just got mine this week. A couple of chapters in and it's as good as expected. Well done again, Matthew. ITH was my very first poker book and this is a good follow-up. It's going on vacation with me. Also looking forward to the convention.

Just got mine and It looks very well laid out. I have read everything else on odds and it is still a big mystery except for counting outs and using the 4 and 2 multiplier to figure out if I should continue it or not. If this can explain Implied, EV well enough to where I can explain it, it will be a modern day masterpiece.
I have a ten hour flight to Hawaii on tuesday which should allow me to give it a good two time parousal. I will report on Wednesday..............

I think the book is fine. I didn't get as much out of it as if I had read it 2 years ago because a lot of that is already in ITH. But it would be a great book and fills a niche for a newer player who has heard about these "pot odds" and wants to really nail it down once and for all.

The best part for me was the discussion for NL about how to protect your hand vis a vis pot odds that you offer, and knowing how much of your stack you're willing to risk on future streets, and making a good guess about how much you might expect to get out of your opponent.

Couldn't have said it any better. This book had some nice tips for me, and I certainly learned some things. I really like the Protecting Your Hand chapter that begins on Page 126. But the book is mostly directed and intended for beginner and intermediate players. That is a GOOD thing.

Let me contrast Odds and Probabilities with another new book. I also read HOH3 on my vacation. That book is too limited and too advanced to be very helpful to most. Don't get me wrong...some great concepts in there. But really not very helpful for the majority of players; maybe even harmful because too deep at times.

OK the typos...well mini typos anyway.

Page 129. Step 2. $1,030 should say $1,030K. I think the amounts have "$" or not depending upon what you actually want throughout the entire discussion on this page.

Page 201 middle: lists the 50% cutoffs
Says: 98s, T8o, T7s, J7, J5s, Q5, Q2s...
I would put: 98s, T8o, T7s, J7o, J5s, Q5o, Q2s
