Preflop I think is pretty straightforward... although I most likely would have folded if UTG hadn't limped in (I still follow Matthew's chart where it says to CALL 1 in EP with 88 or 77). I flop a flush draw, but its pretty worthless unless nobody else holds a spade which is very unlikely. So I guess the first question is, is the flop even worth calling? (I've only ever seen UTG play 6 hands, so I couldn't really tell you if he is the type to bluff at a monotone flop... but with 5 seeing the flop I don't think a reasonable player would do that anyway). On the turn I want a spade or an 8 and not getting either, I fold, which I believe is correct because even when the spade falls on the river I will often times be second or third best.
Who plays PF differently? Who folds the flop? Does anybody raise the flop?

| I play it as you did. PF I follow SSHE charts and the lowest pair that is raising from EP is TT. At a loose table he lowers that to 99. On the flop it is hard to fold a flush draw, even with an eight high. |

| I wouldn't mind folding this on the flop. The pot isn't big and you probably don't have the best hand, nor the best draw. I'd never fold this if it were HU after the flop, but 4 opponents is just too much. |

The pf call is fine, but the point of it is to encourage others to follow, giving us odds to play for a set on the flop, which is what happens. You'd usually play fit or fold, but the situation is complicated for you by the FD. If my maths is correct there is an 85% chance with 4 opps that someone has a higher spade than you do. That makes your FD rather less valuable than you thought, I imagine. Back to fit or fold, then, and you didn't fit.
Your call means that you are drawing, but to what? Two 8s that might not be good anyway or a very dubious flush. Raising is unlikely to fold a hand you beat and will just bloat the pot, making it harder to get away from when you hit what will probably be a 2nd-best hand.
Even if you folded the winning hand here, you far more often won't be.
As Willem says, HU it's a very different matter. |
