This is a hand from the $9.90/360 last night; there are 14 players left...so the FT is now starting to at least be in people's minds.
I had been pretty active at this table, villain here seemed to be playing quite tight, but did not seem to be a total rock.
Relevant stack sizes:
Hero: 35,000
Villain: 38,880
Blinds: 800/1600/a125
Starting Pot = 3450
Hero is UTG+1 with
Hero raises to 4750, MP1 Villain raises to 15,900, Hero??? |

| Since you're not getting odds to set-mine, and you have no folding equity, this seems like a standard fold. |

Well, can't call off 1/2 your stack on 77 pre-flop. Villain will get great odds to call a push, so I agree and say it's a fold.
Side note, WPT brought up a great rule of thumb for this. If the villain has put in more than 1/3 of their chips, then they have the odds to call all-in. |

I'd fold...he probably has KK
Seriously though...I don't want to call and play this OOP and I think we're deep enough to muck. |

Sometimes, to make a decision quickly, I'll just look at how my hand compares with my normal raising range when I get re-raised like this. More accurate is to compare the hand to the range that villain expects me to be raising with.
With only 20BB in each stack the raising ranges of players should be much closer to optimal than if the stacks were deep or if the stacks were very short. For an early position a rough range of AQ+ 99+ looks about right here. Maybe this would be a touch looser to be accurate but this would be around about what villain would expect me to have. 77 doesn't even come into that range and so it looks like part of my range that I would fold to a re-raise.
Absent of any other information this looks like an easy fold for me.

I think cowboy made a very good point. I'm guessing the question might be about whether a push would get villain to fold considering we are close to the final table.
Usually if someone puts a third of the stack in it means that they will have at least 2-1 to call any push which usually makes for a call. It's hard to know for sure if villain is commited to call but as said this is a good guide.
With villain being tight he may have a hand that he can't fold anyway; KK+.

Thanks, everyone. In the heat of the moment, I was looking more at a probable neutral math EV, and decided to push (not expecting to get a fold from villain)...I was more gambling that AQ+ made up most of the total range and trhat I'd be flipping...but the next morning, when i looked at it, I really hated that I pushed...
Thanks for confirming it... |
