You could be behind here, but can't count on it. If BB has a 7, he should have raised on the flop. 2 other players putting their money in, and you can't them both beat. Looks to me like BB has 99 and thinks he just hit the jackpot. The third man could be trapping with a 7, but without any other reads could easily be clueless and playing. Of course, someone could have a straight flush, so you actually have the 3rd nuts, but that doesn't happen much, even in Omaha.

Thank you, Rob. I tend to neglect straight flushes. In Hold'em this isn't a big leak, but I probably should be more aware of that possibility when I play Omaha.
In this hand it turned out BB had quads and had been trapping on the turn. Was 3-betting the river wrong? |

I probably would have played it the same way, but when the river is capped you are probably beat. I don't think 3 betting the river could be too wrong though, especially considering the dead money from the 3rd man calling all bets.
I think ignoring the straight flush possibilities is not too big of a leak, at least where betting is capped at 4 bets as it is on most sites. If you were playing live with unlimited raising you would have to consider it at some point though.
I do notice it now as last month I was in an Omaha pot that was capped 4 ways on both the turn and the river. I had the Ace high flush for the absolute high nuts on the turn, two of the other players each had the nut low, and the last player hit his one or two outer on the river for a straight flush and had the nerve to razz me about it afterwards - he was incredibly proud of getting so much money in when behind and then sucking out!

If I read the BB as a real nut-peddler, then maybe I just call the two-bet on the river rather than 3-betting, and that's a real stretch. With dead money chasing along, there is value in capping.
I like the flop check. With only one card to a low showing, it's not too risky. Depending on your read of the calling standards of the table, you can either check-raise the flop or wait to check-raise the turn.
As the hand played out, don't let the straight flush possibility affect your river play. You got coolered. Tough luck. |
